should i buy a sport or base?

hello, i have been doing a lot of research on the RAV4 and have narrowed down my search to the price range of the used 2006-2008 range. the thing is i dont know if i should get the sport of base. i understand the sport has a higher ground clearance, but apparently a slightly "harsher" ride as some would describe? what do you guys recommend?!
thanks in advance,
nick

I have a 2011 Sport SAP and my kid has a 2010 limited. Both are nice, both are leather, both are V6.
My wife and I like the harder ride, very much like our bigger QX3
No leather steering wheel, good, since leather darkens with age.
SAP, means no spare and run flat tires, car came with 8, 4 summer, 4 snow. very good performance but never again. They are very heavy, you must maintain them even with The air pressure monitor.
Limited has extra boxes in cargo floor.
Limited has more digital door locks, blue tooth, lights at floor
SAP should have floor lights, but dimming door light are OK/
Automatic lights on both, never use, fog light good
In Canada lower windshield is heated on both
Limited has the magic key FOB that must be close to the car for doors, windows, starting
SAP key FOB shaped as a key and use to start the car is a PITA when in your pocket since it activates when you bend, hit your pocket
SAP has 140A alternator and tow package which is nothing really a bit of wire hidden and a larger alternator but the battery is not big enough for you to realize the benefit.

Are you getting V6 or I4?
Not sure if the Sport has the steering wheel radio buttons but the Base doesn't.
Do you need Fog lights? Usually the Base does not come with them.
In some places, the base only gets 16 inch tires on steel rims whereas the Sport/limited get the alloys wheels with 17/18" tires.
Some Base models do not come with rear window tint.

Base I4 has stylised steel wheels, as you can see in my pictures.
I added my own fog lights since I have a base.

Remember that the 2006-2008 I4 has the 2.4L engine. Later years have the 2.5L engine which is more efficient. Some 2.4 L engines are more prone to excessive oil consumption, but not all RAV4 in those years have this issue. if you can afford it, I would suggest you look for a 2009.

Mine has the issue fixed by the original owner under warranty. No more oil consumption issues.

About $75 on Ebay for Chinese brand. Another $7 for a used Toyota relay from Ebay. I got button in the kit too. (see My Upgrades link below)My RAV4 was partially prewired from factory so I just wired it to work with low beams.

The kit comes with the all the wires to wire the fog light independently of the headlights if you wish.

The RAV from the factory do not use a button for the fog lights; it is integrated in the light stalk but I don't care

There are instructions about how to wire the foglights to work with low-beams. I did not take off my bumper. check the Sticky area in the 4.3 section.

I'm looking for similar years as you. From what I can see on carpoint.com there isn't a whole lot of difference on the base of those years and the Sport model other than cosmetics. The difference is that more options were available to add to the Sport (ie. JBL sound and Sunroof to name a couple), but they weren't standard.

I'm a little concerned about the harsher ride of the Sport myself, but will have to test drive to see (used to my father's 2009 Limited).
