Default A baby coming along, I need to get a baby car seat.

We have a 5 month old and we chose the Graco Snugride 35. We also purchased two additional bases. One for our other car and one for the grandparents to borrow.

One nice aspect not mentioned above about the infant seats is that when our son falls asleep in the car, we can remove the seat from the base without waking him up.

Also, check your owner's manual, but the Rav is not rated to use the LATCH system in the center position. You would need to use the center seatbelt to get that functionality.

We have a Britax convertible for our 19 month old and we are reusing our peg perego viaggio also used for him but now with our 2 week old. We also bought a car sac and opted for no snowsuit as this is much higher more convenient. The peg goes from car to either our indie or indie twin stroller and she never has to know or wake up. The bonus of the car seat bag is if you arrive somewhere and they are sleeping you unzip it they stay room temp and don't wake. With a snowsuit you have to untie them and unzip or take off the suit. We also have 2 bases one in each car. Once she gets bigger we will be getting another convertible britax like our son is in.

Fellow parents, thanks for the info.

Keep the info coming. If you have any pictures, please post them too. Future parents can use them for reference. I think it's very helpful.

I have the same peg perego viaggio infant car seat. They will grow out of it within a yr. We brought it used and use with conjuntion with a peg perego P3 stroller. Save tons of money that way. When my son turn 14 months we brought a britax advocate 70 G-3 seat new. It's a very big seat and you can have at least another 2 yrs usage out of it. Tons of safety features and excellent quality. Also we brought a snow bunting from LL bean to keep the baby warm during the cold days. Snow Bunting: Accessories | Free Shipping at L.L.Bean

I agree, we were able to resuse the peg for our daughter saving us tons of $. I find two way to look at it, pay more upfront and end up buying 2 seats for convenience or buy just one seat and pay less. I love how easy to install and adjust the Britax seats are, even if you have to install them using a seatbelt. That plus how safe they are is the reason we will buy another for our daughter. We have the BLVD 65 cs for our little man and plan on getting the newer version of it once our daughter outgrows the peg.

my daughter went from a graco to a britax marathon after 6 months and now she's on the Frontier.

I do not like how the RAV seatbelt is hard to pull and seem to always get tangled up.

We have a newborn at home as well. 1 month yesterday actually. We did a LOT of research leading up to buying a carseat and ended up with the Chicco Keyfit 30. Best overall rating for an infant seat from Consumer Reports, detachable base as many others have mentioned which is nice for more than one vehicle plus the stroller and available 'caddy'. We keep the seat in the house so when we have to go out the seat is not freezing cold, just drop it into the base and go. Only good to 30 lbs but so what? I'll buy another one when she needs it.

It also fits nicely in the RAV, which we bought specifically for my wife to drive with the kid. As others have also mentioned, you can only use LATCH in the outboard rear seats, just FYI.

Just take your time and read and read and read. At the end of the day they all are 'safe' just look for the little things that will make you happy with it!

I went with Britax. Started with BRITAX B_SAFE and I now have the BRITAX PAVILION 65-G3.

Also, when the car seat is facing backwards, the shoulder belts should be below the shoulders. Forward facing they should be at or above the shoulders. From looking at this picture, the shoulder belts seem to be higher than the kid's shoulders.

Just trying to help

Thanks for looking out. Our boy was just a little over 1 year old in that pic and was a little peanut. He is now just over 2 1/2.

I had that headrest adjusted all the way down and once he laid his head back on it/sat back as he was leaning forward in the pic, it all fit right and thank goodness nothing has happened so far/no accidents.

His sister now uses that seat and she is 13 MO.
