At 4 + months - 3400 miles - Having the first oil change (Toyota Care) done at the dealership tomorrow. Can I expect a filter change as well or is it just a drain and fill ?
Handbrake needs adjusting. RAVS seem to have soft brakes but I'm having that checked as well. Should I expect any cost $$ for brake inspection/adjustments ? thx

I would think the funky canister oil filter would be really easy for the dealer to "say" they changed it. How u gonna tell since it's not a spin-on filter. Not sure what u mean by "RAVs have soft brakes", ours doesn't.

Toyota Care service is supposed to be an oil and filter change and tire rotation as well as a vehicle check. If the dealer failed to change the filter that presumably would void the warranty, and that would expose them to litigation and possibly problems with Toyota, since the dealer bills Toyota for the service and if they billed for an oil filter but didn't actually change it that would constitute fraud.
Parking brake adjustment charge - it's the dealer's call unless the parking brake doesn't work, in which case it would be covered by the warranty No soft brakes on my RAV.

I haven't been by to get my oil changed in my Rav4 yet (just got my Rav4 a few months ago), but I bought my Yaris in 06 from the same dealer, with warranty, and they do the whole nine yards mentioned by Blogson. So I'm expecting the same treatment with the Rav4.

I would never consider changing the oil without the filter regardless of what Toyota says. The first one especially.
I thought the first Toyota Care Maintenance was at 5000 miles or 6 months, you are a bit ahead of that so they may balk and not want to cover it. I plan on doing my first oil change myself at around 1500. |

Dealer changed oil and filter, rotated tires, inspected brakes and adjusted handbrake.....which was way too loose. No cost of course.

Mine is low mileage, have had Toyota Care service done so that I would have all of the free services done by the time the two-year Toyota Care service expired, so it was more often than each six months. Oil and filter changes done as I requested - still it seemed a waste to dump oil with few miles on it. My tires had been rotated three times in a total of about 4000 miles, but for the next service I again had put only about 1000 miles on. At that service the oil and filter were changed and the vehicle checks done, but they did not rotate the tires again and did not charge Toyota for that part of the service.
