Default Survey on Coil Pack problems.

As I've mentioned in another thread, we've just lost the 5th coil pack on our 2006 RAV4, at roughly 99,200 miles, having lost the 1st at 80,000 miles. Our extended warranty will run out in just a few months, and the warranty company won't replace the final one unless it fails soon. I contacted Toyota, and they said, contrary to what I've seen here, that they don't have any record of problems with the coil packs, and that they are a normal wear and tear item so they won't do anything.

I'd like to know if this is true, therefore I'd love to hear from everyone who has a RAV4 V6 with more than 50,000 miles. Please provide the following information:
1. Vehicle model year.
2. Current mileage.
3. How many coil packs have failed (if possible, with mileage at failure if the number failed is greater than zero).

Meanwhile, anyone who has had a coil pack fail should contact Toyota and complain. The number to use is: 800-331-4331.

have no idea what a coil pack is, so I don't think I have a problem with it.

ETA: sorry -- this is my "not being helpful" day I guess, ha!

I have a 2006 V6 Sport with almost 59k miles, and as far as I am aware no coil packs have ever been replaced.

Well, if it happens the "check engine", "AWD", and "Brake" warning lights all come on, and the engine may start running rough. So you'll know if it if you see it.

(A coil pack is situated above each spark plug and it sends the high voltage to the plug to create the spark for that cylinder.)

2006 2.4 ltr Sport 101K miles still has original coil. I would suspect the ECM is frying the pack or you have a short to ground at the pack.

If you have the 2.4 ltr Sport, you have the 4 cylinder, which (from what I've read) doesn't have the problem: the problem is with the V6 engines in 2006 (I've seen complaints from Camry and Avalon owners with that engine too).

There are couple of long threads with people reporting the failures. Did you search?

I did, and there must be a problem with my search options because I couldn't find them. (I searched for coil, coil pack, coilpack, and didn't find anything, and I know they exist but I've posted on one such discussion myself.)
