The sticker on the OEM towbar on my Australian spec V6 is 4200lbs (1900kg)

Yes, different countries get different tow ratings for the identical vehicle. That's been well established.

However, my thought was that since we don't get a diesel option in the USA that others might not realize that it is available in other countries, making it essentially a different vehicle as well, which may help explain a different towing capacity rating.

As you know pulling a trailer puts stress on a lot of the vehicles parts.I would not worry about the engine except to change the oil up to a heavier weight. An additional tranmission cooler is a must. Anti sway kit on the trailer is a must unless it has dual axles. You may have to beef up the year suspension so that the vehicle sets level when loaded. That being said, the trailer and tongue weight is way too high for this vehicle. I personally would not tow this trailer with a Rav.
