We bought a 2011 v6 limited AWD Rav4. Somehow the previous owner lost the full size spare. So the Tpms light is on , is that becasue the lost spare. Can I have just a spare tire on a rim without a tpms? Was hoping to just get a spare and put in the rear and forget about it, ha ha.....
The spare has a tpms sensor. That would definitely get the light on. May the techStream software could be used to deregister the missing one. Or get a spare tire from another recent Toyota and the sensor registered.
I had a similar situation with the 2006 RAV4 that I just bought for my wife. The previous owner replaced a stolen spare with a generic steel wheel without a TPMS sensor so the TPMS light stayed on. I looked around for a tire shop that could add a sensor & register it; turns out there was also one failed sensor out of the four mounted wheels so I had them replace the sensor on that wheel also. I could have saved some bucks by buying sensors on Ebay etc but wanted it done locally so I could have someone to fix it if there was an issue.
