How unique are the wheel locks. It looks like there must be many sets with the same key. If so what is to prevent a determined thief from acquiring a set of keys that will allow him/her to steel the wheel?

A set of master keys is the least of your worries. If he is determined, the thief can buy (or steal!) a set of wheel lock removers (sort of inverted Easy Outs) at NAPA that he can use on ALL brands of wheel locks.
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....&group_ID=1641 You can't stop the really determined creeps - that is impossible. You are trying to slow down the other 99.9% that are ill equipped and too dim to figure out how to bypass the locks.

too bad.
I'm concerned because I have a brand new compliments of Toyota, 17" base alloy wheel for my spare and it is far to easy to removed from the spare holder on the back gate. Anyone know of any other locking method? I'm going down to southern Cal in a couple of weeks and that is where I feel vulnerable. Mike

go get yourself a cable lock...........feed it through the mount and the rim of the tire then lock it...........a lock is only meant to keep an honest man honest.........

Looks like a 3/4x3/4 inch camlock might do the trick. I would have to drill holes in the back of the mount to receive the cam and then put some kind of slot on the back for the cam to slip into.
It's probably more work than it's worth and ultimately no more effective than putting 3 wheel locks on. The cable lock might work as well though not quite as clean, finally a tool steel quality bolt from the back drilled to receive a padlock might also do but again not very neat. Mike
