Are you running a new power line from the battery, activated with a relay from the reverse light wire?

I'll connect the relay coil to the left reverse light and the 12V supply will come from the back of the accessory outlet on the left side of the cargo area. Still don't know if I need a second light on the right, I'll soon find out!

I apologize for the poor quality of the bracket picture, these auto-focus cameras have a mind of their own especially with dark objects; for those interested, just peek under your rear bumper for a better view, very easy to see...!

In your 4th picture it looked like you already have a hitch installed, a non-OEM one? The bracket in your 2nd picture would not be available as a light mounting point because it's already used by the factory hitch. That bracket is only present in the V6 models with the factory installed towing prep option. You won't find it in the I4 models.

I have a Class I Hidden Hitch (non-OEM) with 11/4" receiver for my bike rack and for a 3rd post for my tandem kayak. Thanks for the explanation for the mysterious brackets, they look very sturdy and are probably designed for a Class II hitch with 2" receiver. There are other ways to mount the lights using 90° brackets but that probably means drilling into the body/bumper steel beam or the hitch.

Still not wired up yet but when done, I'll post some pics.

Good news! I was backing up last night in a poorly lit parking lot only to discover that my cheap backup camera has a decent night vision feature...The extra light I will soon connect will only help further!

I just replaced the factory 921 reverse bulbs with GE nighthawk part 921NH. Much brighter than the original.

I bought a small infrared light from China about a week ago, it will probably improve the camera picture significantly: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/100-B...641497467.html
I'm still deciding where to mount it, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was going to get a couple of those for surveillance--never thought about for the Rav4.

I bought a pair of LED lamps a few weeks ago off of eBay for $15 each. Heavy duty, IP65 (dust-proof, mostly waterproof) milled aluminum body with a glass focusing lens and 10 watt LED. Current listing 10W Waterproof LED Flood Wash Light Lamp DC 12V Outdoor Bulb Floodlight | eBay by "emilyandlily"

I was seriously thinking about cutting holes in my bumper cover and mounting them behind it. Not sure if I want to go that far with this...
