Hey everyone,
Thanks to the crappy condition of Hwy 401, my RAV's windshield now has a large crack in it from a good size rock hitting it. Has anyone replaced their windshield yet? If so, how much was it? I'm going to check with my insurance company too of course. But, the windshield has built in heating elements along the bottom edge. Do replacement windshields have these too? Can I order a windshield from Toyota? I've never had to replace a windshield in all the years I've been driving, so this is new to me. Thanks for any info you can provide! |

Last month I was looking at SafeLite online and they were asking if the windshield was with or without heating, so I'm assuming they have both versions. The standard version was something like $6-700 including replacement, if I remember correctly. It seems to me that if you involve insurance you get better prices. For example a rock chip was quoted as $120 when no insurance involved and only $76 when done with insurance (this was the cost for the insurance company).
This was in US, I don't know if Safelite has Canadian presence |

You'll get both opinions - Factory vs OEM replacement glass. [In the past] I've had both done on other cars and except for logo's and price! In fact, many dealers have outside shops do their glass work - If price is important I'd go with the reputable auto glass shops in the area. The defrost grids (CA version) should be in the aftermarket glass - we don't have that option in the USA.

I had the windshield replaced in my wifes then 02 Focus. Went to a GOOD glass shop and it was perfect and still is (Sold it to her parents). Was definatly worth the extra money. They were only about 50 dollars more than Safelite and I got OEM glass.

Thanks for the info guys...
Dealer said it will cost $800 installed for a new OEM windshield. That's the route I'm going to go with I think. |

Just had mine replaced. Total cost was almost $500 including labor, and the guy came out to my house and did it. Only paid $200 because insurance covered the rest.

In Florida, provided your insurance includes comprehensive coverage, state law requires that windshield repair/replacement be covered 100 percent with no deductible.

I had mine replaced this spring. The metal stiffener on the wiper was bend down by a chunk of ice and scratched the winshield. A buddy of mine in the autobody business recomended PPG glass over Safelight and OEM. Install was perfect and no waves in the glass like Safelight and less prone to scratches like OEM. Insurance covered it 100%. You have a choice of which glass you get.
