I have read quite a few discussions about tires/wheels in the various threads, but would like to know a specific piece of informaiton...
What size rims will bolt up to our '08, V6 Sport to replace the stock 18" rims? I am looking into getting a set of simple steel rims for next winter along with actual winter tires (the Yokahamas SUCK for winter traction). And since the selection of 18" tires is not great and very expensive, I was thinking of going with a smaller, more "common" rim and tire combination. So, has anyone looked into this? Should I just contac tthe dealer? Thanks. |

Over 100 views and no responses - interesting. I guess I'm the first one to look into this? I will post a reply if I find out anything.

Are you just asking whether you can put smaller wheels on your Sport? If so, the answer is yes. I saw several RAV4 Sports this winter running winter tires on 17" steelies from a base RAV4. Your Toyota dealer, or tire dealer, may already sell packages of that sort. The RAV4 in the US is also sold with 16" steelies, but 17" is the smallest stock size in Canada.
If you want to go with a generic, non-Toyota wheel, your tire dealer should be able to help determine whether or not a particular one is a good fit for the RAV4. |

Thanks Guys,
Yes, this is what I am wanting to do - getting a smaller (cheaper) set of rims, which hopefully will translate into smaller/cheaper tires. As long as I can keep the rolling diameter of the tires within spec. FixedWing - what brand of tire did you run? Thanks again for the input - I'll see what I can find. |

Your '08 Sport has 235/55/R18 original equipment tires, right? According to Tire Rack, 16" wheels will fit. The best size would 225/70R16, which differs in diameter by only 0.82%
I know that 16" rims will fit our '07 Limited, because they're installed right now (with 215/75R16 Toyo Open Country snows). As far as I know, '08 Sport has the same hubs and brakes. |

Thanks so much guys - this is EXACTLY the kind of informaiton I was looking for.
Unfortunately, the stock Yokohamas just do not perform in the snow and ice. We are used to driving an older, full 4wd Pathfinder with large BFG all Terrain tires, so the smaller/lighter vehicle with the "summer" tires is a bit of a switch. I didn't really want to get into the "tire switching" thing, but... Thanks again. |

I'll tell you what I did and I hope that would be helpful to you; I have a sport package and when I decided to get winter tires for the RAV I checked everywhere but I end up going back to My dealer and they gave me four steel rims for base models which they are 225 / 65 / 17 (Micheline X-Ice) therefore my speedometer will not be effected that much!!
Handling was great and I do recommend them especially the tires (I was told that their steel rims are heavier, better and designed for RAV4 !!! I do not know and I do admit that I have no technical or mechanical knowledge of any kind of vehicle!!!) The only thing that p... me off was that the rims had no center caps / grease caps!!! I have to pay over $100.00 CND to buy them!!! I will take care of it when I can afford it!! I have lots more to pay for at the moment!! anyways good luck and I hope this was helpful to you. Cheers

I ended up going with 215/70R16 winter tires with steel rims. I got the Blizzak DM Z3. They had pretty good reviews at various sites. ie http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?DocID=299
I originally had the 17 inch wheels. |
