Default Gas Tank "Lid"

For the love of everything holy, I cannot think of the correct term of the lid that's opened by lifting the lever right by the driver's side door...

Anyway, as I was in the process of filling up the RAV with gas, I heard a squeak when opening the lid. I repeated to see where it was coming from, and apparently the pivoting end of the lid is scraping (eek!!! ) where it meets the body panel.
A portion of the lid has scraped off the paint as well...

Has anyone encountered this "defect???"

In the Owner's manual, it is called the the fuel filler door.

Get you your dealer to get this adjusted before you wear the paint more.

"Fuel filler door"
Thanks for the clarification - I presume I was too frustrated and forgot!!!

We have an appointment to get an oil change, tire rotation, etc., so I'll let the dealer know.

Thanks again!

YES! Thank you! I have it too..on the back (hinged) side of the fuel filler door in the middle, it appears to be scraping. It sounds horrible and is scratching the paint. Please let me know what you find out at the dealer!!!!

Yes I've had that exact problem. There's a couple things you should do to solve this:
1) Silicone lube. Spray some around the hing area and wiggle it around to loosen it up. Apparently when it get stiff from lack of lube and dirt it can actually bend the bracket holding it.
2) Open the gas door until it's perpendicular to the car. Gently but firmly pull the door out until it no longer makes contact with the car.
3) Use touch-up paint to cover the scraped areas.

Get a can of white lithium grease and spray the hinge.
