Default Are antenna masts interchangeable?

Is the stock 2009+ roof antenna mast interchangeable with the 2006-2008 "whip" mast on the fender panel?

I switched my 2007 whip mast with a shorter mast from ebay but it flexes too much for my taste. I'd like replace it with the rigid 2009+ style and would like to know if it would

(a) fit the threads on the 2007 fender.
(b) if it would be flush with the antenna base.

Has anyone done this? Pictures?

Thanks!

I don't know if the threads are the same, but remember, the 2009+ roof antenna has a built-in preamplifier inside the base.

I replaced my long mast antenna with a short one years ago (WalMart sells them), but quality sucks. After dealing with some rust issues (just surface rust on a metal band around the bottom), my antenna broke last week, so I am looking for a replacement now as I don't want to reinstall that OEM lightning rod.

If you find something nice, PLEASE let me know, thanks!

Thanks junebug, but why is that important? Are you saying that the mast might not fit because of the pre amp or is the reception going to be poor or x??

I think the thread should fit, but the reception might not be as strong as before.

They use the pre-amp to compensate for the shorter antenna. So, without the pre-amp, reception would suffer, even moreso if it's not located on the roof.

The preamp is on the oem deck itself or it's built into the wire?

The pre-amp is built into the base where the antenna screws into.

Did you ever find another nice solution? I really need to find something nice to replace the POS I have now.
