Default Tire question

My husband has a set of new tires 225 60 17 for a car that we don't own anymore. Will these fit my 2009 V6 limited stock rims? I need to replace my geolanders and am hoping I can just use those. What do you guys think?

They will fit but they are too short.

Assuming your OEM tire size is 225/65/17, the tires you propose are 3.13% different in diameter. The result would be your speedometer reading 3.221% too fast. This will also make your odometer count up faster than it should.

Changing tire sizes can affect the handling of your vehicle. Also, make sure they have a sufficient load rating of OEM or better.

In short, really not a good idea.

I'd use them w/o a moment's hesitation.
The RAV may not handle quite as crisply but unless you're pushing it to the limits on every corner it doesn't matter.
A 3% error at 70mph is 2mph.

Since when will a tire with a shorter sidewall make a car handle not "quite as crisply"?

Also, how new is the new? I have bad experiences from tire that were sitting on a car for say 2 years. That is something must be considered.

Besides the speedometer being off, don't forget the speedratings, load rating and your spare tire will not work.

Agreed, it will probably handle better!
Actually it probably depends more on the tire's handling characteristics than the size difference. In any case a RAV4 isn't a sports car anyway.
Never could relate the "S" in SUV to anything other than a marketing gimmick.

Speedometer error will actually be a benefit since you'd be going slower than indicated. Use a GPS for the best accuracy.

Speed ratings only REALLY matter if you're running 100+ mph continuously. IOW, they don't matter.

Load rating would be good to check but only matters if you're near the limit and I'd bet they'll easily exceed the RAV's maximums.

Spare tire could be used if necessary. Most just get old, not used.
