Default Touch up paint

Our Rav has a few small chips from highway driving up front and wanted to see what you guys recommended for touch up paint. I have a white 2011 AWD.

Saw some good prices on ebay, but wanted to see if there were other places to buy.

Just buy a tube from your Toyota dealer, it should be no more than $30. I think on white it should come out pretty good.

Are you getting touch up paint based on colour code?

Just get it from the dealer as they are not expensive.

I would suggest you try on the spot which is the least visible. TouchUp paiint can make the chip area more obvious as it will potentially leave a blob there. I usually spread the paint with my finger. You will need to practise a little before using touchup.

Good luck.

As vainb notes Toyota touch up paint is made color-coded to match the color on your RAV. The car's color code is noted on the Toyota specifications decal strip seen on the car when the front door is open. Also, my experience about having a blob where the touch-up paint is the same as vanib's. I've mixed a little acetone in with the touch-up paint in the bottle which contains it to thin it a bit, and if the chipped bit isn't too large I use a very fine point artist's brush or even a cotton swab with the cotton stretched to a fine point to apply the paint.

Bought one from a dealer few months ago, they're $13 something +tax(cdn)
So it should be even cheaper in the U.S.
Looks like a pen, one side is paint other end is clear coat.

For small delicate work, try not to apply the paint directly to the car with the pen. Press down on a CLEAN piece of cellophane/plastic and you will get a generous gob of paint or clear coat coming out of the touch-up pen. Dab a tiny amount of the already runny paint/clearcoat into the stone chip divot. Let dry thoroughly before applying second coat or clear coat. Use a artist brush as Blogson suggested for very small chips. The colour is amazingly well matched after the clear coat.

What is supplied in Canada is different from what I was sent by my dealer in the U.S., which was a small bottle of the paint only with a small brush, but no dual-sided pen. After touching up two areas where the paint was chipped and letting it dry for a couple of days I tried using clearcoat which I got locally (nearest Toyota dealer is two hours distant). When I appled the clearcoat it was a solvent for the touch up paint and the result was a mess. I had to remove the entire job and start over, using only the paint. Is there a type of clearcoat which will not become a solvent for the touchup paint underneath?

I bought the same two-ended touch-up pen as Philrav4 for the same price. They have one for each paint code (e.g. 040 Super White etc)

TOYOTA CANADA : Service your Vehicle > Toyota Parts Focus > Toyota Touch-Up Paint Pen

I found gently depositing a pinhead sized drop of clear coat seems to work best. Its high viscosity allows it to flatten out and looks okay when dried. I too did the do-then-do-again with the brush-on approach. Ended up with the drop deposit method - less aggravation. YMMV ;-D

There is already a post on the pen:

I bought the touch-up paint from the dealer--it was less than 8 bucks. Paint code is 1F7 for silver--replace the 1F7 with your paint code for the right part number. This dealer has it for $6.84:

00258-001F7-21 - Toyota CLASSIC SILVER MIC

Toyota Part# 00258-001F7-21 CLASSIC SILVER

Many thanks for the advice about the applying clearcoat. I'll give that a try.
