Default Installing a Novelty Tire Cover on my RAV

I've got a 2006 Rav and I'm looking to spice it up a bit.

I want to leave the stock spare tire cover on for protection, but I was looking to place a novelty tire cover over the stock one.

Is this possible? Is there room for me to stretch a $50 canvas spare cover over the existing toyota one or do I have to completely replace the tire cover.

Thanks!

Is your stock cover all soft vinyl or is there a hard shell facing the back with a vinyl surround?

If it has the hard shell, I would be concerned about your second cover scratching the paint on the hard shell, but that's just me.

Default custom spare tire cover

Older thread but I am resurrecting. Has anyone ever used these guys
Hard Spare Tire Covers - personalized - Try our FREE online designer. for a custom cover? I'm thinking of using them for my new 2012 Limited with a hard shell cover. They seem pretty organized, you can upload a photo and then size it to see what the final product will look like.

Anyway, it's a vinyl cover, but the printing goes on a hard cover face plate that goes on the whole outside (the vinyl is just on the sides). So he is recommending I take the Rav4 hard shell cover off altogether. I asked him why and am waiting for an answer, maybe it won't fit as well, I don't know. But should I do that? I was hoping to get a cover to put OVER the hard cover shell. Not that I expect anyone to steal my spare, knock on wood, but I don't know, I would rather just leave it on there...thoughts??

I ordered a vinyl cover of my university alum to replace my hard shell cover. I used the tire size of my model Rav to order, but for the life of me I cannot get it to fit over the tire.

I might be able to get it on if I took the tire off, but then I couldn't mount the tire back on the carrier and tighten it.

Thanks Laura, I'll look into this. I'm also looking at vinyl designs that apply directly to the hard shell cover.

I know i'm going off topic and I know it's probably illegal to do it in the States but if you want your tire cover to be novelty and stand out, you can do this.

Take out the spare tire, buy a medium sized LCD TV, cut out the tire cover to the size of the LCD screen, fit the TV into the tire cover and wire the system.

"Bonus" - When you put the car in park mode, the LCD screen automatically flips over to reveal the standard spare tire cover, no car thief would know.

I could just imagine the look on people's faces when you stop at a red light

Laura, my Rav is white. I took all the badges off the back and it looks like a marshmellow from the back.....LOL. Just wanted something to give some color. I ordered it from eBay, lots of choices there. The cover is black with "Ole Miss" in red and blue across the cover. Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put it on.

Off topic: Were you able to relocate your USB/ AUX jacks?

LCD screen would guarantee that some idiot would steal my spare tire and the cover! I'm sure the police in my area would "not" think it was very cool.

LOL, yes, I can see how it would look that way!! So then you ditched the hard cover and got a soft cover. I'm just trying to decide if it's a bad thing to get rid of the hard cover or not.

Hard cover is still on. I can't get the vinyl cover to fit over the spare tire (even with the hard cover off). I'm looking at decals for now.
