Hello everyone, and I apologize for just joining and starting up a new thread immediately, but I'm in urgent need of assistance.
The model in question is a base 2012, 2.5. I need to figure out if there are structural differences between the tailgates (back door) of a 06-08 vs the 09-12??? I need to replace the tailgate and it's way too expensive from the dealer, and I found a good deal on an '07 tailgate from a wrecker, but the dealership said that only 09-12 are interchangeable. Looking at pictures of the two only a few trim pieces and badges differ slightly. So I was wondering if the '07 tailgate would indeed fit on the '12? I highly doubt that Toyota would change the dimensions of the tailgate mid-cycle, but I'm not sure. If anybody can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

I don't think they are different.
Were you able to get the part numbers from the dealer?

Besides the trim & badges there might be some differences in the wiring but that could be transferred. I wouldn't hesitate.

The hole for the backup camera comes to mind
Make sure you are getting the correct door. Was yours a SAP model , i.e. without spare tire?

You have to keep one thing in mind when it comes to those "fitment" manuals or charts. If different models or parts don't match 100% the manual or chart will not list it as a compatible part. I recall years ago needing an "ignitor" for my 1983 Toyota pickup. The Hollanders manual said 1983-1984 Toyota pickup only. I searched & searched & finally was told to try one from a Toyota Camry or Corolla. So, I got one from a Camry or Corolla (can't recall which) The ignitor looked totally different then mine but quess what? It freeking worked!! I always thought the Hollanders manual was the "bible" and never questioned it. I learned something that day. If a comparable part will work but is not an exact match to your part it will not be listed in the Hollanders manual. I'm sure Toyota will not tell you a 2007 tailgate will work for you unless it is an exact match to your Rav4. However, it probably will work. I agree with you. I doubt Toyota would change that tailgate during this run as the model design has not really changed. Good luck & let us know what happens. I'm curious to see how it works out for you. Personally, I'd be willing to bet money that it fits even though there are some small differences in the 2007 you found & your 2012.

Don't you have insurance? Why replace an entire door on a new vehicle on your own?

Hey guys thanks for the quick answers and suggestions! Unfortunately insurance is not an option since the accident happened while the vehicle was uninsurred. I think i'm going to order the '06 gate and see what happens. I will definitely keep you guys posted.
Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving to all the yankees here! (we had ours last month) |
