Let me preface by telling you I am compulsive with parking in the best possible spot in any parking lot. I live in a congested part of North Jersey and I have managed to not get 1 ding on my vehicle in the past year and a half.
So I was at the gym yesterday morning and parked in my usual far spot... I bring a pair of sweatpants to put over my exercise pants for the walk from my parking spot to the entrance (ha!) ...I get out at 11 AM and THIS IS WHAT I FIND!!!!!!! NO NOTE The spot to the right of me is just snow, so no one parked there. But someone did park perpendicular to me and backed out directly into my vehicle. Going to the insurance guy today to see what can possibly be covered and hope no deductable goes up. my baby!!!! |

Damn man, sorry to hear! I work in NJ and my parking lot has left a lot to be desired as well (And mine's patrolled by security guards no less). Hope the insurance adjuster is fair to you and gets the claim expedited! I know when mine was dinged in the parking lot I didn't even have to meet him outside, he found the car on his own and took care of it. I was hit similar to you, but on the opposite corner!

I'm surprised you made it a year and a half in North Jersey before you got smacked. My new Rav lasted a week in the same region before I got a nice parking lot dent. Too many drivers around the area have no respect for anything.
I'm thinking about putting a little dashcam in mine that remains motion activated while parked to catch this sort of thing, although in your case it looks like a forward facing dashcam would have missed it. PM me if you need a body shop recommendation since it sounds like you're nearby. I have one that's given me good pricing and nice work on 3 different occasions. |

That hit and run certainly is maddening! Sometimes no matter what precautions we take someone with no sense of right and wrong or responsibility will somehow manage to damage our vehicles. Hoping that yours is repaired to be as good as new.

What a rotten thing to do to someone's car! Any cameras in the area that might have caught this action?

People/animals who do this sort of thing and run away should have their licenses revoked for life.

Don't you love my license plate? L80BAV. I wish it was L80RAV..."lady rav" ..that would be me!
Anyway, no cameras in the gym parking lot. I contacted the lumber yard across the street, they have a camera, but unfortunately it does not reach to my parking spot. I am going to have to pay $500 deductable...the cost to repair is estimated at $860. You have no idea what I would give to find the person who did this and drove away.. |

I am thinking of putting on rear or front bull guards. Just for some more added protection. But is there a rear bumper guard that would have even protected against something like this?

But not sure if it would have protected your bumper since it looks like it was hit on the right corner. |

I feel for you as I had about the same thing happening to my 21/2 months old RAV on Christmas eve...but on the left side of the bumper; it will be repaired in early Feb and at least I have no deductible to pay; not sure if my premium will go up because this is considered a claim. I hope they will replace my bumper cover instead of repairing it, heck it's a new vehicle
Not sure in your case but good luck
