Glove Box won't open

After losing our 2008 RAV4 in a recent accident, we replaced it with a 2012 RAV4. Had to go from Austin to Colorado to get what we wanted (V6, 4WD) but we did, and it's a great car.

But the lower glove compartment won't open. Wouldn't open at the dealership, but they stated they didn't have the parts on hand, and refused to jimmy it open. Probably shrewd thinking on their part.

Now we're home. I put some lubricant inside the mechanism, but no dice, with any of the keys. Feels like it's locking, but doesn't quite unlock.

Any suggestions? We thought we'd try a good locksmith here in town. If nothing else they can completely rule out a problem with the lock if they aren't able to get it open. I dread having to deal with a dealership on this; it's going to entail at least 2 visits......

I think you need to let the dealer handle it, after all it is a new car under warranty and they are required to fix it no matter what.

Let the dealership ... deal with this.
It is not rocket science to fix. Just remind them that you don't want any scratches.
