woo hoo it's done.
this picture shows the shelf covered in speaker box felt fabric.

> this picture show the aluminium bar fitted into the original holes the original soft shelf sat in. it is locked to length with two bolts which keeps it very solid. (it won't need to come out often for me anyway)

last one - two shots of the shelf in place from the front and the back. It's pretty solid. and because of the height of the Rav boot I can get gear in and out without lifting the shelf. If I had more money/time/patience/sanity I would have sliding bolts at the edge of the boot so the shelf could lift or rotate for more access. but this serves my purpose.

Default Reviving!

Hi, all the images don't load any more on my view of this thread.
Picking my Rav up today! and wanted to create a better parcel shelf. Has anyone successfully tried anything else or have any picture of theirs!?

I'm thinking of making something out of MDF and then covered in speaker carpet material. The shelf will be hinged in the middle so that it will fold up in case of rear collision. I currently have a stroller and a folding high chair for my 11 month old. With those two items occupying the entire cargo floor, I have no more room for groceries unless I put them on top of the stroller and high chair. The plan is to build a shelf that goes on top for groceries and other times.

Why not use the cargo net with poles? You can put stuff in the net or use the poles as a support for your shelf:

Where did you get those poles from? I might consider that but I'm actually considering putting the shelf right on top of the side cup holder/storage so that I get the extra height to keep the groceries from going over the seats.

It was standard equipment along with the tonneau cover when I bought my Limited. There may be some on sale in our classifieds area and on Ebay:
