Default 2007 RAV Remote

I bought my 2007 V6 RAV4 Base without any remotes at all. Do I need to go to a dealer to program a remote? There are plenty on E-bay with a key I can get cut, but I'm sure the local dealer will sink there teeth into my wallet more than just a bit. Also, do the older RAV4 Fob style remotes work for an '07?

buy the keys uncut on ebay for like $50...HYQ12BBY is the code i think.
then theres a TSB on the board that shows you how to program it yourself. Look below

Hello! I hope someone sees this message.

I'm trying to buy a keyless remote for my brother for his 2007 Toyota RAV4 which he bought used (and therefore without a remote). I'm having trouble finding solid information online, and of course, I can't ask him questions because it's a gift.

I don't know what trim level he has but I know it's a 4-cylinder automatic. Will a key with the code above (HYQ12BBY) work for ALL 2007 models? I'm unsure if any models that year require transponder chip (or a G Chip - is that the same thing?). Some websites I'm looking at bring up an additional code (HYQ12BDC) so I'm just wanting to make sure that after money and effort, he will be able to use the key.

I'm looking to buy an uncut key on eBay. Any help is appreciated!!

Yes, the remote key with the HYQ12BBY FCC ID code will work on all 2007 models. Only the 2007 Limited trim level needs the transponder chip in the key. The Base and Sport models don't have the immobilizer in the US. Canadian models ALL have the immobilizer. One like this should do nicely:

Sorry, follow-up question. How common is the Limited trim level? Might he have that?

The Limited is the most expensive trim level so it's probably the least common. However, the key I linked to will work fine on Base, Sport, or Limited.

P.S. Look at the doors--they will have a Limited badge, Sport badge, or no badge.

Not mine! No leather heated seats either. Didn't want or need them.
