Default New key won't work, What do I need to do?

I have a 2006 Rav4 limited and both keys are cracking around the door lock buttons. I bought 2 cases on ebay and put the electronics from the old keys into the new keys and had the new keys cut but the car won't start. Do these new keys have to be programmed or is there a way to transfer the electronics of the old key to the new one?

After some research I guess I must have bought a key case without transponder. Is there a way to remove the transponder from the old key to the new one.

Hi, I transferred the transponder unit to the new case and they work. The key opens the door and and fits in to the ignition, but will not start the motor... there must be something else that needs to be done.
Note: I have read the post about programming the transponder but thats not the problem. The lock and unlock buttons work. the issue seems to be with the new key shank itself. Its been cut and fits the door and ignition, but won't start the ignition. is there some sort of programming in the actual key shank? maybe something magnetic?

Does the engine crank over when you turn the key? If it doesn't, then the teeth on the key have not been cut correctly.

Does the red security indicator on the dashboard go out when you insert the key into the ignition?, If it stays red, then the RFID ( ie. chip or transponder) is not present, or was damaged during the transfer.

Just to be clear, when purchasing a new key ,you need to program both the lock/unlock portion of the key, as well as the RFID portion. SInce you are only transferring these two components from your old key, then no programming is required. You did transfer both the remote locks transmitter, and the RFID chip?

Thanks Rick,
I keep searching the forum and found out about the two chips... struggling to get the immobiliser chip out of the old key fob, but will try a heat gun gently... if not, will resort to the dremel as someone else has.
Thanks for the response. Will let you know how I go.
Cheers
Willem
