OEM remote starter woes

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the site today, but I've had a rav4 for about 1.5 years so far. Currently we have a 2008 Rav4 Limited 4cyl 4WD. we bout it used with about 17000km on it. It has about 34000 on it now, but now the factory remote starter stopped working. It was working perfectly fin last winter, but now with the cold starting again it randomly stopped now.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but for this I have no idea where to start.

Did you check to see if your remote battery is still working?

yup. The remote starter remote is built in to the key. You press the lock button twice, then hold it the third time, then the car should start.

I really dont want to take it to the dealer. I have a feeling they'll charge an arm and a leg.

Well, that's the thing, isn't it? It's unlikely an independent shop would be familiar with the OEM Toyota remote start system. With only 34,000 km on the vehicle, shouldn't this still be under warranty?

exactly. And unfortunately, the car's warrenty just finished. 36 month/60000km

Sorry for the late reply guys. I rarely come on here. But will try to in the future. And no this has not been resolved yet. Has anyone else been able to see what's up with it?

i have an after market remote starter also..........try looking under the dash towards the left side where your latch is for the release hood......there should be a switch or a red button for a reset.....you can try it....i'm saying it because i have a switch that i turn off when i park inside my garage for safety reasons............cheers
