Used cheap Scosche unit on ebay, like that
Scosche Bluetooth Car Kit BFTAK BlueFusion Hands Free For Toyota 04 and Up | eBay My RAV4 2010 is not in compatibility list, maybe thats why I had some problems with install. Removed clips and radio using a screwdriver (added a duck tape not to scratch it). After I plugged all in, I was able to pair my phone, but unfortunately my radio lost sound and appeared muted, even on FM. After a lot of thinking, I decided that Scosche somehow signals a 'mute' to head unit. I identified a power wires to Scosche, and started to remove one-by-one other wires from satellite harness. This strategy lead me to success, in the end sound re-appear back without loosing any of bluetooth functions. Total installation time: 30 minutes... plus 2 hours to find correct wire to cut. It was really hard to remove a wire from harness using a needle. Especially the one I was searching for, was the last one left Total cost to have a factory bluetooth: 35$ Now I want to install a radio control buttons to steering wheel. Unfortunately price of 200$ for it is much more then I want to spend on piece of plastic |

So by cutting the wire, when you answer or make a call, you wanted to have to manually turn down the volume so people can hear you?
...or are you saying it was muted all times while paired? If it's the later, I think it's malfunctioning. |

No, you do not need to turn down the volume. Now all works as intended by manufacturer. If call (in or out) detected, your radio auto switches to pseudo satellite mode "SR1 BLUETOOTH".
If I dont cut the wire, there is no volume at all. Nothing, nor at FM, AM, phone, or any other sounds. It can be my unit is somehow broken, or not fully compatible. |

Ok, I went ahead and purchased. Old car was a ford with sync, so I need Bluetooth connectivity. Hope it works, but if not it wasn't too much.

Don't know, I ordered a new one from ebay for $33. You could order it from amazon and return it if it does not have the box.
FYI the kit I ordered from ebay arrived today and I installed it, no problems. Took me about 1.5 hours but I worked slow and made sure the mic was wired properly. I like that I have voice dialing and it sounds good. Last edited by wevudo; 06-01-2012 at 09:55 AM. |
