Default 2012 usb nested folders

Hi! I just bought a new RAV4 a couple of days ago and I am really enjoying it. However, I am a little peaved that the usb mp3 playback doesn't support nested folders.

My music is organized as "artist\album\songs". When I put them all on a 16gb drive, the display only shows the album folders to select from. Therefore, I may not necessarily remember which artist that album is by.

I used the Bulk Rename Utility to then change all of the album folders so that it would be organized as "artist\artist-album\songs". This "worked" but for some of the artists with longer names, I can no longer see which album I'm selecting.

It would be much easier if they programmed it to be able to actually work with and display nested folders! It's not that difficult really... I hate when technology that is perfectly capable of doing something is limited by poor programming.

Anyway, has anyone else experienced this, and come up with any workarounds?

Thanks!

Default I use my iPod

And have developed playlists. I mostly listen to podcasts, though.

Not sure I understand. How many nested folder are you wanting?

I have my files arranged by Artist (main folder) then Album (sub folder) then (song/file) in my case mp3

I also have my HU USB setup so I can read three lines of text

Song -
Artist -
Album -

You can switch this text setup by hitting the "TEXT" button on the lower right side. I can also search for a song file through a folder and move from up or down a folder.

Thanks for replying. Originally, I had my USB set up just like you. Perhaps 50 or so main folders based on the Artist name. Then under each Artist, separate folders for various Albums.

Unfortunately, under this set up, the navigation only showed all of the Album folders at one time, regardless of the fact that they were actually in separate Artists folders. I could not actually navigate to see just the Artist folders at the top level. I could navigate to an album, and only see songs from that album. But, if I tried to navigate up a level, it was all the albums at one time (again, regardless of what artist). It's a little difficult to explain this because it's so counter-intuitive.

I would like to be able to navigate all the way up, so that the only thing I see is the top folders, Artists. Then, I select an artist folder and it would then show me just the album folders under that artist folder. ToyRider, are you able to navigate in this way? Where you can only see just the Artist level folders?

No I understand what your saying now.

I'm pretty sure I was able to see the top folders (artist names) but now you got me second guessing myself.... to be honest with you I haven't done this in a while, I have had my random selection set so I really haven't searched for songs...I'll check it out on my ride home tonight and get back to you this evening.

jib,

You are correct I can not see the artist name as the top folder either.

I am only able to see the artist name when I dump the files into the top folder and not under a sub folder.

Default Thought it was just me

I have the same problem. I thought I just couldn't figure it out. What bulk rename utility did you use. I'm thinking of doing the rename trick...or getting an aftermarket head unit that works the way it should.
