A/C control knob broken

My 2009 rav4 I4 just passed the basic warranty and the ac control knob is wraped into the assembly. Dealer asked for $100 for diagnosis and said may need ~$800 if they have to replace the whole assembly. I removed the right and left panels nears radio and the screws for the assembly. I tried to pull the assemble out but looks like I have to remove the up cover first due to blocking, am I right?
If I have to replace the assembly, is it that expensive?
Thanks.

I saw one on eBay for like $150-250, can't exactly remember. I will look for the link. I still think that you can fix the knob, maybe just needs to be pushed back out.

Remove those 2 side panels again, and take out the 4 bolts for the radio. Pull the radio straight out, unplug the cables, and set it aside. You now have access to the A/C panel. You should be able to just push the knob back into place. If that doesn't work, you can remove the A/C panel easily at that point.
