I have a 2012 RAV4 base and the bluetooth connection to my cellphone keeps dropping out. I have paired my phone with the radio and it works well when it is connected, but it randomly looses the connection. The bluetooth indicator on the radio (little antenna with signal strength bars) shows 3 bars when it first connects and then gradually and randomly looses bars until it eventually says that the phone connection is lost. Then after a random amount of time it says the phone is connected. This keeps happening and is very annoying. I don't know if its my cellphone or the radio, so I did a test.
I have a Garmin Nuvi with bluetooth, so I turned off the radio bluetooth and paired my phone with the Garmin. Everything seemed to work fine. I went to the store, but when I returned from shopping upon starting the car the Garmin said it couldn't find the phone. This makes me think that perhaps the problem is with my phone. My final test will be to find someone else with a cellphone and try to pair it with my radio. I guess this will tell me where the problem lies. I had the Garmin turned off when testing the radio to avoid possible interference. Any thoughts? Last edited by donreeder; 11-30-2012 at 01:35 PM. Reason: forgot to add something |

My previous cell phone worked well with both my RAV4 JBL system, and my Garmin GPS, but I preferred to use the Garmin because it had less delay than the RAV4.
One day I upgraded the phones firmware, and it started loosing it's connection to the Garmin although it still worked with the RAV4. Several months later another version of firmware was released, which I installed and was happy to find that it resolved the intermittent connection problem. Perhaps you should see if there is a new firmware release for your phone.

I finally got a cellphone from someone else and it worked without any problems so I guess my cellphone is the problem. I went to the AT&T store and got a new cellphone and my problem is now solved. Everything now works fine.
