Hi, guys -- haven't been on for a while, because my 2011 V6 has been humming along great. still love it! I just had my 36 month service done (at 18000 miles). Changed the oil, rotated tires, etc.
But now, I notice my "Maint. Req'd" light comes on and flashes when I start the engine. Isn't this light supposed to come on BEFORE the oil change? (I didn't notice it before, only after). Is the servicer supposed to do something affirmatively to make this go away?
I guess I'll have to bring it back to the shop that did it (not my dealer). What do I tell them to do?
Yes, they should have reset the clock every time they change the oil. Take it back to reset the clock and tell them they need to give you a free tank of gas for wasting your time and fuel.
thanks, people. I find the manual poorly organized, frankly. Can never find anything. For instance, the maintenance light info does not appear in the index. Not under maintenance, or warning, or light, at any rate.

At the shop, we work on a wide variety of vehicles. When the oil is changed, we have no idea if the vehicle has a maintenance reminder unless the maintenance reminder is on. Once in a great while we will have a customer come back in 3 weeks to turn off the reminder. We lose money on an oil change before it even comes in the door so 4 extra minutes looking up to see if there is a maintenance reminder and how to reset it makes the job a big loser.
and Fixit . . . so sorry for oil changes being a big loser. But really, they should have seen this dumb (smart) blonde coming a mile away. Just because I don't wait for the oil light to come on is no excuse. This is the first time I've had this issue with this car or any other. Complete, accurate, and courteous service will keep me coming back when I need something expensive, eh?
Guys, would you believe I finally did this today? Because I'm a dork, apparently.
BUT . . . it didn't work the first time -- and I even looked at the youtube clip. For my 2011, the odometer shouldn't be in the mileage display, it has to be in the Trip A for this to work. The instructions are in the engine oil data section.
It is now fixed . . . and almost time for another oil change! And, in other news, I paid off my baby and now own it all, lock stock and. happy!
