Any help is greatly appreciated...
I have a 2007 Rav4 4WD 4cyl 2AZ-FE engine w/ 66K miles on it and I am plagued with a rough idle after complete warm up. RPMs hover in the 500-600 range in Drive and after shifting in N or P, its smooth.
Ive owned this vehicle for 2.5 years now and has always had this rough idle since I bought it (54K mi). I was wary upon my purchase but Toyota assured me that it was fine "this engine was known for its rough idle".
I have done everything I can think of to try and correct the issue... I have reset the computers w/ ScanTech, I have taken the Throtle Body off and cleaned it, cleaned the MAF sensor, air filer, and vent purge valve. I've even removed the filter screen past the filter to achieve more air. I've taken it to Toyota and paid for diagnostics, was told that it was normal, no vacuum leaks, no cracked hoses and all is operating normally.
The water pump was replaced by Toyota days prior to my purchase, the steering shaft clunk and 2 weeks ago I replaced the alternator due to the bearings going out. Other than that, there are no other repairs done to the engine other than normal oil changes. (I have all toyota records of service since date of purchase). I have also had the A/T Fluid replaced.
Has anyone else had this problem? I dont have power problems, has never stalled, never had a check engine light.
I absolutely hate that the rough idle rattles the cargo door, makes my ears feel like they are going to pop due to interior rattle pressure and even the exterior antenae shakes around.
I have contemplated changing the spark plugs, but Ive been told not till 100K, Ive heard of people seafoaming, but that can cause other problems, Ive heard of people sending in their ECM to a person in NY for reporgraming. Im LOST.
I have also noticed since purchase, while cruising at freeway speeds you can hear the EVAP system (I think) building pressure, then it feels like a compressor kicks off and releases. You can feel a tiny hiccup from that but have no idea if that is normal. Just thought that was weird as it constantly cylces during my drive.
Ive noticed that the rough idle occurs right when the wheels come to a complete stop. The A/C compressor, if running does boost the rmps and smooths out the idle.
I am so ready to just trade it in for something else but it doesnt seem financially smart to do so, especially when I have so little miles. I understand 4 bangers dont run the smoothest, but I have never had one that was this rough.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Anyone know of a specialized mechanic within the Seattle area (other than Toyota dealer) that I could take it to? I love everything about my trucklet EXCEPT for this engine! :wall
Thank you!
