Default Do you have the dreaded steering knock/popping sound?

If you have the knock, please list your vehicle (Engine: V6/4cyl, Drive System: 2WD vs. AWD, Trim Model: Base, Sport, and Mileage). If you have had any work done to remedy the problem, please list what that was and the result.

I'll start:

Engine: V6
Drive System: AWD
Model: Base
Mileage: 5K

Work done: We took the RAV4 in to Middletown Toyota in Middletown, CT. They replaced the strut mounts and struts on both the driver's and passenger's side, and then realigned everything.

Result: Still knocking/popping. It does seem to be getting worse (more frequent, louder). I'm definitely concerned from a safety standpoint.

Thanks,

DJ

Four attempts at two dealers. Both bushings and towers replaced, noise is still there. Was told by service rep that Toyota has a handfull of cases on this that they are trying to sort out. Toyota KNOWS they have a design flaw and at the moment have no fix for this.

Currently in arbitration with Toyota to get a new vehicle.

At low speeds (under 15MPH), when turning the steering wheel slightly (not full lock or anywhere near it), you'll hear a succession of small, quick pops or knocks coming from the front driver's side of the car. Ours seems to do it more frequently when you're on the brakes.

Toyata replaced the Steering Rack and re-aligned. Sound is worse than ever. They are consulting engineering again. They've had the vehicle 3-weeks.

Sounds like popcorn popping under the hood while taking low speed turns left or right...

My Rav V6 sport only does it when I have the whole family in the car. I'm certain it is in the strut tower bearings/bushings. I'm not at all worried about it from a safety persprective, but it sure is annoying!

Default front-end knock

RAV4, Limited
V6
Auto trans
2WD
Current mileage: 3300

Getting the same front suspension "knock" when going over ANY speed bump or bi-level road surface. Most noticable on the passenger side.

Yes, that knock is annoying from a new car. It is like worn shocks or something bad with the tie rods. If I go at city speeds and hit a bump or joints on the road the suspension knocks. It is like taking a hammer and hitting the strut.

I wonder if it is caused by the SRS system, since the wheels for a split second lose traction while in the air.
