15,000 mile service

Hi!

Does anyone recommend this service at the dealer? Dealership says it'll cost $170-$230. ( tire rotation, filters, PCV valves, lubrication, oil change and cabin filters change) Have anyone brought their cars for this?

I change my oil every 5000mi ( Mobil1) It's just that its cold now and I can't do it so I have no choice but to go to them. What do y'all think. Would an oil change be just fine or I gotta be a sucker for this thing?

Y'all know better , All of you car guys, I need help.

Per the Toyota site the RAV4 15K service point states
Quote:
Replace engine oil and oil filter 1
Rotate tires
Re-torque drive shaft bolt (4WD)
Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
Inspect the following:
Ball joints and dust covers
Brake lines and hoses
Drive shaft boots
Engine coolant 5
Exhaust pipes and mountings
Radiator core and condenser
Rear differential oil (except 2WD)
Steering gear box
Steering linkage and boots
Transfer case oil (4WD)
It also states that if you do a lot of driving in dusty conditions the air filter may need replacing (easy to check and replace yourself).

All that inspect this and inspect that adds labor hours to your bill.

Opinion here (and you will get lots)...If you buy into the dealer's list you are paying for a lot of things Toyota does not recommend at 15K. The oil change and rotate tire thing is about all that is needed. You can debate the tire rotation thing. Some are religous about it some are not. I'm a "not".

There has been some discussion here on what the heck Toyota is talking about when the say "Re-torque drive shaft bolt (4WD)". Wouldn't think it would be a biggy unless you do off road stuff.

Will let others comment on the drive shaft bolt statement.

Unless you turn your car over every 3 to 4 years and could care less

or

Can't wait for the OEM tires to wear out to replace them with a higher quality tire

Well, for anyone with any mechanical skills, the 5000, 15000, and 30000 miles services cost 10-50$ in parts. Suckers pay $$$.
I do 5000 miles/6 months oil changes at dealership to have track record for any warranty disputes, but it only $23 around here (stiff competition). I would not trust Jiffy Lube.
