K&N Air Filter

Do many people here have the K&N Air Filter installed? Does it do anything for MPG improvement? Any bad side effects (CELs)?

Thanks in advance

I have used them on other vehicles over the years. I don't plan to buy one for the RAV. The realistic benefits are minimal, if any. You will not get any increase in MPG.

I have used K&Ns in different cars in the past as well, with good HP and some MPG gain, that is why I was wondering if there are some users on the forum that currently have one installed that can give some input.

I have one installed. Performance, yes, if you have driven a car with good performance and torque. You can definitely tell the difference. Mileage, well, that depends on your driving habits.

I installed a K&N drop in filter on my 2000 Camry about 5 years ago. It didn't do anything for me performance wise or mileage. However, on my 4-cylinder Camry, it uses the same air filter as the V6. Needless to say, the stock air filter probably isn't a restriction.

Since I usually drive my cars like 150K+ miles, I save money on the long run as I won't need ot buy another filter.

When I need a new air filter for the RAV4, I will probably get one.

I got one but have yet to install it since I have a few OEM filters to go through first.

Back in 1996, I bought a K&N filter for my 1990 Chevy truck. Since then I have put just over 100k miles on that filter.

I've been reading this post and I notice that I place some information that might be a little misunderstood. The K&N filter, for example the in box drop in. Will not do much regarding performance unless you are on the expressway and hammer the throttle. Then, at about 4,000 RPM you will feel the difference. Other then that it will drive more or less like a stock air filter.

Now, if you install the funnel tube and the K&N filter, that will really give it some pickup.

… i have the drop in… if your buying it for performance you’ll be disappointed… i purchased it for its washable, reusable ability for the lifetime of the car…
