And how much did you pay? I just had to replace mine and am shocked at the rate the prices have skyrocketed. I don't know if it's a California thing or if it's the same across the U.S., so give me your input. If you recently replaced your battery, how much did it cost you in your neck of the woods?
I remember I used to pay $30-$40 for a top of the line battery a few years back (2002-03). I replaced my trucks battery in 2007 and that cost me $50ish. Now the battery I got for the Rav cost me $80. That is a pretty big jump in just a few years. That was the best (CCA & warranty) and cheapest I could find. Thank goodness for WalMart. At the auto parts they were $90+. |

My current vehicle:
V6 2008 Rav4 Sport My location Bristol, Connecticut Just had my battery replaced on May 2011. Early 2011, the battery began acting up. At the time I purchased the battery, price was $95. I was able to get it for $75 with a $20 off coupon. I just checked online @ advanceautoparts and the price has gone up! Code:

We had both replaced (leakers) but they were under warranty. At least they were replaced with what appears to be better than original. Gotta remember to check the water on these and in this climate I fill 'em up every two months.

I've been purchasing most of my Advance parts using their online, free store pick-up, because of the dollars off coupon codes they offer. I think these are still current: A123 is $20 off $50 or $30 off $100, ES123 is the same, VISA is for $30 off $75. They will not accept these codes for in-store purchases, only on-line.
Most of their better batteries are around $100 so the $30 off brings them down to $70. Pretty good discount and I've had no problems whatsoever in ordering on-line. Place my order & the parts are ready for pickup at the nearest Advance store in about 20 minutes. Thought this info. might be helpful to someone. |

I've bought replacement batteries from Costco but haven't had to replace one for a number of years. I'm interested in knowing how reliable are the Johnson Controls batteries installed in newer RAV4s.

Very useful information folks, great feedback. I didn't even think of looking online since I thought it would have to be shipped to you and I didn't think a toxic material like that could be shipped. Store pick up is a great idea. One thing also that keeps me going back to WalMart is that their batteries (Maxx by Johnson Control) has been good to me over the years. I had some batteries I bought a few years ago that had the Penske label on them (from Kmart) and they were horrible. Leaked acid like crazy after a couple of years of use and corroded my terminals, cables, and battery pan on other vehicles (even had one explode). The Maxx don't seem to have the acid problem. So it looks like batteries are just plain expensive these days.
