Question How often to change 2008 RAV4's oil?

Hello, I don't have my RAV4's user manual however according to Toyota RAV4 FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) (Subject: 3.1.2)...

Quote:
You should then follow
the schedule in your owner's manual (every 7500 miles (12000 km)
for regular service, or every 3750 miles (6000 km) for severe service)
as the minimum oil change interval.
I was just wondering if this was still accurate? The FAQ seems a bit dated. Thanks!

For 2008 warranty Toyota required an oil change every 5,000 miles or six months whichever came first. That's in the USA with standard or synthetic oil, unsure where you are located.

5,000 miles is the number I've used forever on all my cars.
I may go 7-8000 with synthetic but that's complicates odometer math.
On every 5 & 10K is easy.

5,000 miles to maintain warranty. Any decent dino oil will go that far easily.

Once my sister's trucklet is out of warranty, I'm thinking of switching her to Toyota's 0W-20 (which I hear is an awesome oil) and 10,000 miles, but I want to be sure she doesn't have any consumption issues first.

It's actually my sister's, but I'm the family wrench.

Here's a bit of advice. You can always over change your oil but under changing it will cause damage to the engine. All numbers produced by Toyota or the oil company is conservative to ensure no damage is done. It's all in how much risk you are willing to accept.

As an FYI, I use synthetic and change it every 10,000 miles assuming I wasn't towing anything.
On my old Integra GSR Turbo (and of course synthetic), under regular driving I change every 5,000-7,000 miles without racing (depending if I was a good boy or not). When I race, I change as soon as I can... usually under 500 miles after a race.
On my wife's old Corolla, it was synthetic and every 10,000 miles.
On my Accord V6 sedan, it was synthetic and every 10,000 miles.

Cars, snowboarding, house modding.

I don't change my oil too often, only when the maintenance light comes on or when six months have passed since the last change.
