Default Evaporation Filter Assembly

Hi guys,

As I was driving on the highway a few days ago, I noticed dragging noise underneath my car. I pull over to see what it was and saw a black hose dragging underneath my car. I had no accidents, didn't hit anyhing under my car so it looks like it just fell off. I took it to the dealer and he said the hose was from the Evaporation Filter Assembly. The filter had fallen off and the rear connecting hose was also missing. I was quoted at $350 for the repair since my warranty would not cover it. Does any one know what this is?

Could it be that this issue was addressed on 2012 model year? I have a plastic shield and a metal one...

I looked through the entire thread but could not find any thing about evaporation filter assembly. Is it the same thing as the charcoal filter?

Typically the part that comes off is the charcoal canister filter, not the charcoal canister itself. My 2008 came equipped with a small metal shield protecting the filter. Later models came with a larger, more elaborate plastic shield.

Just wanted to drop by and give an update. After much bickering, Toyota decided to cover half the cost of the filter replacement. But then my canister gave out and this time dealership called Toyota and they decided to take care of all the repairs and refund me for half the filter replacement.

Tip to anyone else with similar problems: Get on the phone with Toyota; its not easy but definitely pays.
