I have a 2006 Rav4 limited 4x4 and this past winter my truck left me puzzled.
My driveway is a bit of a hill (give or take 20-30 degree pitch). Went to go back the truck in the driveway after the snow storm and i was sliding all over the place and couldn't make it up the driveway, all alarms buzzing that im sliding, hit the lock. Still can't make it?!. We also have a Mazda3 and that thing made it in reverse up the hill/driveway with no issue??!?!??! How the hell does a mazda3 with zero awd out perform a limited?! ![]() ![]() My tires are Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S and brand new. So it can't be tires...? (could it?) I thought the 4x4 was stronger than this? I thought this truck could handle more than this?? I dont know what to think right now. Kinda heart broken honestly <=/ Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!! - Tanya |

Not sure what to say about your experience. My 2010 Rav4 4x4 handles snow like it was dry pavement. It is one of the things I like about the Rav. My driveway is on an incline like yours and I've never had a problem.
Maybe have your dealer inspect the 4x4 system for a problem.

Do you know if your 4x4 was working the way to should?
Edit - Did you lock your 4x4 and were all four wheels spinning? Lawrence

Sorry for your bad experience. That is not how the RAV4 should behave. I would take it to the dealer to see what is wrong.

How do you tell a dealer you can't get up a steep dwy? Maybe if you or they can verify the 4x4 lock up is inoperative, but a steep snowy dwy like mine, new Dunlops, not sno tires in 4w, 4 inches of sno, I got stuck, the tires just would not bite, had to back out. 4w or not tire design and road conditions have the final say.

Wrong tires and your tires are surely not broken in yet.
Even my Mazda6 V6 2WD was sure footed in snow and ice, even on steep hills. I had cheap Firestone WinterForce on.

Winterforce are true snow tires with a very deep & aggressive open tread; they can be studded for ice traction where permitted by law. They are noisy but that's the price to pay!

THANKS EVERYONE!
1. Yes. I engaged my LOCK. the back tires were spinning! 2. I have no warning lights firing off and just had my truck in for fluid changes. 3. Break in tires??? and the snow was about 3 inches give or take. No need for snow tires in just a couple inches of snow 4. Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S are rated "aggressive" ... how is that the wrong tire? it's the step up from the factory standard that came with the truck in 2006. Oh and FYI: every last thing on my truck is stock. No modding, no aftermarket add on's, nadda. |
