Read Motor Oil 101.....then u'll have a better understanding of pressure, lubrication, viscosity and their relationship to each other. Any temp below operating temp can be considered cold.

Motor Oil

Interesting that the 2 year Customer Care (including free oil changes) program that we have in the U.S. for new Toyotas doesn't seem to be offered in Australia (and maybe anywhere else?)

Actually it exceeds the OEM requirements as does M1 5W30. The difference is minuscule.....purchase by best price unless you drive in Arctic conditions.

By the way, when I asked my dealer what oil Toyota uses if I want full synthetic they told me Mobil 1 5W30 for my V6...

I've been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for at least 15 years...

That chart even confounds the dealers. It makes no sense at all in some areas.

Default V6 2GR-FE rav4 oil recommendation

I too am a M1 guy. Never had a problem with it and when I switched our VW jetta to it from Castrol I picked up almost 2 full mpg. That was from 5w40 to 0w40 as that is they only M1 to meet the VW spec. I plan on switching the RAV once the freebies are done at the dealer and I have to go back to doing it myself. 0w30 most likely.

How is everyone reading that chart posted above? Makes it seem like any of the oils is approved, I guess depending on climate? Very odd. If the RAV is ok for 0w20, why not factory fill instead I'd 5w30 and maybe grab a couple mpg's? Very odd.

I'm sure it confounds US dealers--it's a CANADIAN chart!! Notice they only show the Scion from 2011 on. Canada didn't get the Scion line until then.
