Default Dynomax with Vibrant resonator attached

I just did a Dynomax SS 17289 muffler in-line attached with a Vibrant Performance 1141 resonator (both straight through designs) to replace the space vacated by the stock muffler. combined length is just about 20 inches, same as the stocker's muffler space. I added the Vibrant resonator as a way to further reduce what I anticipated would be a pretty noticable increase in noise from the Dynomax.

I did it quickly this morning at a muffler shop so I did not get a chance to take photos yet. I will do so and update when I bring the car in for brakes and have it on the lift.

The combo is a noticable increase in noise level under acceleration despite the additional resonator. The tone is less raspy and buzzy and deeper than before, but also resonates in the cabin in a more noticable way in lower rpms because of the deeper sound. The Rav also sounds louder from outside the car as well.

I just drove it back from the shop to the garage so I did not get to really hear it under all conditions yet. That and its raining so I did not try a full throttle acceleration on the street.

I am running a intake resonator box delete with the stock box and K&n panel filter as well so take that into account.

I will try to record some stuff with my phone later and post it. Thanks.

Pics will come Thursday. I tried to take a video with my phone today while driving. The microphone will not pick up the noise from the exhaust well enough to really tell the tale. I reviewed the video a few times and you can only barely hear the exhaust sound in the vid. Looks like I need a better way to take the sound in.

That being said the car is not quiet at all under throttle. There is surprisingly no drone with this setup. At cruise with minor throttle to maintain speed you can only hear the exhaust very slightly. The road noise is more noticable while cruising around. Idle is stock quiet. However, once I step on it I doubt my wife would not notice the substantial change in volume of noise.

Also, if you step on the gas the deeper tone is actually more annoying because it reverbrates inside the cabin. I am not sold on the sound and is considering a bolt-on silencer using the exhaust tip by welding in a reducer. This way I may be able to have it both ways. No noise while driving day to day and a simple removal of the exhaust tip when I need the full flow and high end power that accompanies the extra flow.

Power is definitely up after 3k, torque band on the otherhand also shifted up so down low it can feel slower but is not actually worse when driving around. The throttle tip in aggressiveness if offset by the lower torque so I don't jump as much when hitting the throttle initially.

So far I'd give my setup a C+ at best.

Sound solution that is removable was installed today. I was going to leave it in the exhaust tip but decided it fits better this way. This small reducer moved the sound level down enough that at mild throttle the sound is not much louder than stock was. There is a tone difference but the level of sound is much less annoying to me.

These are the two items installed in-line. As I indicated the total sound output is greater than I wanted because of the tone reverbrating inside the cabin.

Maybe a video with the camera outside and behind the RAV?

I did not get a chance to take another sound clip. I did manage to put together a more effective silencer using a 2.5 inch venturi and a reducer that is welded to it. The whole thing looks pretty ghetto but works well and is just bolted onto the exhaust tip.

Sound level is down substantially when it is in and I can have it out on days when my wife will not have to use the car.
