I've had my 2010 V6 FWD Limited for a couple of months and have noticed a handling trait that I'm not happy with.

When accelerating from a stop and turning, the unloaded front wheel spins very easily. Especially noticable in the wet. Not sure if this common or maybe my tires aren't the best. It's not really what I know as torque steer just a loss of traction.

Is this a common trait?

Thanks/

Just a reminder (I have a post already in this forum) regarding my 1999 RAV4 but I prefer to start a new one.

1999 RAV4, Mileage 110.000, AWD, 4 Dour, Automatic.

My car runs a lot better than it used to be but it still it needs some improvement. In order to go to the torque converter lockup I have to let the accelerator (Throttle) paddle off for few seconds and apply throttle again in order to go to fall torque converter lockup.

Today I disconnected the oxygen sensor connecter underneath the passenger seat. I was surprised to not see the MIL light!! How that could be? (By the way the bulb in my cluster works fine)

Does this mean the downstream oxygen sensor is not working?

Thanks to everybody for their input.

We recently purchased a used 2008 Limited. The lady was a grandma and I think one of her grand kids dropped a color crayon or something into the passenger side vent. When you take a left hand turn the item rolls to the right and then when you take a right hand turn the item rolls to the center. I was going to try and send a vacuum hose down in there but when I look inside there is a honey comb barrier just behind the adjustable flaps.

Can anybody tell me how I can get the vent out or or any good ideas on to get it apart?

Thanks,

Forgive me if this has already been posted...I did try searching and didn't really see any matches.

I just went through a touch-free car wash, on the drive back I had my a/c on and noticed a swishing noise. It sounded almost like a wind noise you would get driving at high speeds. I turned the a/c off and the noise went away. It also makes the noise when the car isn't moving. I've never noticed this noise before. Could it be because under the hood might have gotten wet?

The car is a '10 Limited. I am pretty sure I still have warranty as I haven't hit 36K or 3 years...I think that is why my terms are. I haven't had to have anything done (knock on wood) so I forgot what my warranty status was/is.

Just got done with inspection and while there wasn't much wrong this year, the mechanic gave me some suggestions and quotes.

Suggested to change the front struts and sways I believe within the year. Quoted me $700 and change :wall...

I'm not a car guy like most of you, I stick to electrical stuff, audio stuff, etc.

So, some questions:
1. I did a quick google search for struts, about 150ish for front l/r. Sways, about 25ish. Are these quick averages I noticed reasonable?
2. I know mechanics/retail up charges a lot, so lets take my 175ish average and say 250. Is it worth almost 450ish in labor?
3. Since I said before, I'm not much of the mechanical side of being a car guy, how hard are these parts to replace on my own? I remember seeing a thread a long time ago that said there are like 4-6 bolts for each, but how much work before getting to the bolts themselves? Does the car need to be lifted up (only 1 jack/jack stand at home)?

All of this is assuming I would not be missing any parts, little things that need to go with sways/struts that don't come with them? I don't have the book/service manual and never ventured into anything beyond taking a wheel off... It is an '05 awd with about 62k miles on it.

Hello Canadians,

I will be exporting my 2006 Rav4 to Canada this year. I did some research and found that this car is eligible to be imported to Canada. Now, my question is - do i have to do any modification on this Car to meet Canada safety standards? If anybody has any firsthand experience in exporting 2006 Rav4 from USA to Canada, Please share your experience.

Thanks,

Got in my 96 2 DR RAV4, 135,000 miles, last week and it wouldn't start, dead as a doornail. So I had it jumped and it started and kept running but nothing electrical worked. No lights, no ac, nothing. I drove it to town and let it run while I went in somewhere for five or ten minutes (car was sitting where I could see it). I didn't realize that wihout power the fan to cool the engine wouldn't be working and it overheated and overflowed. So I had it hauled to a repair shop, one I'd never used before. Mechanic said the battery was bad & put in a new battery and a fusable link. $290.
He told me that got everything working but the dome lights and the radio.
I took the car home and on the way dsicovered I have lights and ac but no dome lights, no windshield wiper, no signal lights and no radio. I haven't checked whether the fan to cool the motor is running.

Before I take my car to a Toyota dealer or another mechanic, can anyone please give me a clue to what might be wrong so I won't be totally unprepared.

Thanks

Hi all!

Took posession of my first Toyota ever, a 2012 Rav4 last week. Overall, the vehicle is a delight. So far, the only thing I don't like about it is the radio. Test drove the Rav4 at the dealership with the radio off. I'm not an audiophile, and for most intents and purposes, the cheapest car radio out there is enough for me.

The radio sounds pretty good, as long as the signal is coming through very strong. Even on strong stations on FM, static pops in fairly frequently, and its much more than background static. It really kind of overpowers the actual sound.

AM stations don't really tune in at all. I live in a city, and the station antennas are within 5 miles of my house. This is the worst radio reception I've heard since the old turn-dial radios. Actually, they sounded better, you just had to adjust the dial every once in a while.

Anybody else have a similar problem?

Vehicle is a 2012 Rav4, 4cyl, automatic, Sport model. Antenna is up on the roof, it looks like.

hope someone can help.
i have a 1995 2 ltr rav4.
i had a bad smell of petrol everytime i ran my rav 4 any where,
traced it to one of the little pipes on the fuel pump top plate.
had it repaired at work , ( re- brazed. )
went to replace it and most of the rubber joining pipes are knackered too.
bought a HAYNES MANUAL ( for the earlier ravs ). but it doesnt show my petrol tank layout, could anyone show me a plan of my tank and the fuel lines that surround it,
also my fuel pump top plate is oval in shape and has 3 joining pipes on it , the haynes manual only shows 2.
hope someone can help me with a plan of the tank & fuel line layout.
i plan to replace all the minor fuel lines.
many thanks .

Up for sale is a set of 4 Toyo G-02 Plus Open Country tires in 215 75 16 size. This came off a 2008 Rav4 V6 Limited and were an exact dimensional diameter match for the stock tire size.

The steel wheels are 5 x 114.3 bolt pattern.

The snows were only on the vehicle between the period of time that the salt hit the road to when it cleared up (approx late December to March). There is approximately 10,000 kms on them, if that. Tread measure is between 10mm and 11mm on all 4 tires. These are good as usable snows until 4mm so there is a LOT of mileage left on these!

The tires were never driven above 7 celsius so the tread compound is still intact. The tires were used for 2 very mild winters and as a result did not log much time on the vehicle itself.

I have been very meticulous in ensuring proper tire pressure so the wear on them is barely noticeable.

Price of this set of wheels + tires was $1200 and I have the original receipt as proof of purchase as well. I am looking for an extremely low price of $795 for this near new set that I have also cleaned prior to storage and storage was in a proper stand with cover so that the tires do not develop any flat spots. These could pass for brand new (they even have the little 'hairs' on the sidewall). Reason for sale is because my SUV is going back on lease return and my replacement SUV will not fit this size (brakes are too large).
