Will the RAV4 see this engine?

This is a clip from a Jalopnik article for the 2018 Camry four cylinder engine:

The all new 2.5 liter Dynamic Force Engine, now pumps out 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, a healthy jump over the previous motor that managed 176 hp and 163 lb-ft. The base engine will also get an EPA estimated 29 MPG in the city and 41 MPG on the highway. Toyota says that is a 26 percent improvement in efficiency over the outgoing car.

Frankly I question the MPG estimate but this would be a fine addition to the RAV4 eh?

That would be nice!
But in the same time, I am still puzzled with lack of diesel engine option on Toyota`s vehicles sold in the states.

I would think that the stout up charge for diesel coupled with the cost of fuel here in the US negates any reason to buy it. Sales would be dismal.

Is diesel fuel still expensive down by you? It`s about the same price as regular gas in NJ.. maybe few cents more.

Down here, diesel is between regular and premium, about the same as midgrade gas. Back when gas was approaching $4 a gallon, diesel was cheaper.

Here, diesel basically is the same price as 87 gasoline since the cost for diesel has declined in relation to those for gasoline in the past year or so. But the diesel price does wobble back and forth. Chevy has a diesel Cruze available which they claim gets 52mpg highway but the engine isn't available on all Cruze models. Mazda promises a diesel CX-5 later this year - they say that when it was first introduced in Japan sales were very poor but have proportionally increased to about 9% and will be satisfied if it reaches that percentage in the U.S.

Maybe new engine option will be introduced for a new model.. 2018 or 2019 or 2020 ?? 29 city and 41 highway sound pretty good to me, 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque - i`ll take that too haha.
But as RTexasF said, i am a bit skeptical about mpg.. more likely it will be all different, based on models, sizes, drivetrains..

But if i had a choice between gas and diesel, i`d probably get diesel. Wish my FJ was diesel.. 13-14mpg.. ouch.. If i would drive it to work and back every day.. i`d be spending 500 dollars per month on gas..

"Upcharge" for diesel may be more the cost of Toyota getting the engines certified for US market emissions standards, customer marketing to overcome the negative diesel stigma and the price of the oil-burning powertrain option for buyers. Just ask Volkswagen what happens when you screw that all up.

I would actually buy one in a hot minute.

I didn't realize the 2018 Camry engine is DI. I test drove one before I bought my Rav.
