The reason they did that is because their competitor Honda was selling more Accords (compared to Camry) because they had a better product.
Yes but Camry was considered "long in the tooth" when it hit the market against competitors so had to do a more significant mid-cycle refresh. Similar to the Civic refresh (redesign) only 2 years after launch.

I doubt there will be massive changes to RAV4 mid-cycle since it's been (and continues to be) so successful. Yes to Hybrid. Yes to tail/head lights...some bumper reconfig...but that might be it. Oh and HOPEFULLY axe this horrible carbon-fibre interior.

When did the 2015 models come out in the US and Canada? I see some reviews in Canada from December 2014, so I'm guessing December 2015 for Canada for the 2016 model.

A December 2015 arrival for a pre-ordered 2016 hybrid would be OK for us, even though we want something sooner.

How much is this hybrid RAV4 going to cost? The Highlander hybrid MSRP is $47,750, according to Toyota's U.S. web site.

My guess is similar to Venza pricing.

Toyota's web site doesn't show a hybrid Venza so as far as I can tell it's not possible to compare non-hybrid with hybrid Venza costs. With the hybrid Highlander's price being quite a lot higher than a non-hybrid version (about $7,500 for the Limiteds, the only hybrid Highlander available) I suspect that the hybrid RAV4 also will be quite a lot pricier than a non-hybrid RAV4 as well and it may also be only available in the Limited version.

No, I meant I expect the RAV4 Hybrid pricing to be in same ballpark as non-hybrid Venza pricing for comparable trims & options, at least in Canada that is.
