2015 Rav4 Limited 6 speed?

Confused. Just bought a bran new 2015 Rav4 and very happy with it. Does it have a 6 speed transmission or 5 speed? Reason I ask if I move over the shift lever over it will say 4 on the display. Maybe I've been driving it all this time in only 5th gear. Thanks for any feedback.

Toyota website and your owners manual is good resource

anyways, it's 6 speed, I don't know why toyota put into 4th gear that when you put into S. same thing happened on 2010 camry. My impreza put it into whatever it's supposed to be, it's CVT but it just doesn't put it into 4th as default..

also, you can shift gears to whatever you want it after you put it into S

All in North America have had 6 speeds since 2013.

4th is the "direct drive"... 5th and 6th are both overdrives, so 4th will not be the "wrong" gear once you are above 40 or 50.
Once in Sport mode, you can manually pop the shifter up to 5th or 6th.

Not so sure, I believe D goes to 6 as there have been times I've shifted to S and revs rose right up as it was in 5th or 6th at the time. 4 is more likely the sweet spot for city driving as 5 or 6 is really for cruising on interstate

Would it still go to 4th if you are already exceeding the RPM limit for 4th?
Maybe then it would go to 5th...hmmm.
My 4runner will go into 3rd occasionally if I'm in 4L and switch from D to S. Not likely to happen in my Rav since it doesn't have 4L.

4 is the upper limit of gears then, if on S you don't need to start on 1 at a stop, unless you wish to fulfill some gear changing dreams, 4 will select from 1 to 4. The only change it will do is if you leave it on 1 and gun it, it will at least move to 2 before the engine dies

You can't exceed the redline in 4th gear. 4th gear RPMs are 6200 at 124 mph (200 km/h), which is the top speed for the RAV. Actually, if you "floor" the gas pedal to reach maximum speed, the transmission with stay in 4th gear, and won't up-shift to 5th and 6th.

The 6th speed is a high overdrive, and for all practical purpose it's only good up to ~85 mph on flat road. Above 85 mph the engine load is such that the transmission will downshift to 5th gear. You may be able to keep it in 5th to 100-110 mph if you are gentle with the gas pedal. Above 110 mph and all the way to top speed, it's down to 4th gear again.
