Kenwood navigator head unit replacement - which one?

Since Toyota no longer supports Pandora and my new Adventure can not play MP3 CDs, I'm replacing the Toyota head unit with a Kenwood unit. Want Kenwood because they use Garmin navigation software, of which I'm long familiar. My only dilemma is which model. Will probably purchase from Crutchfield because of their technical expertise and they supply the needed wiring/body panels. It will be a DIY install.

However, the Crutchfield, (and Kenwood), web sites do not make it easy to compare different units with each other. Has anyone purchased a Kenwood unit for their RAV? If so, which one?

Kenwood is the same company as JVC. But personally I prefer Pioneer. I use a Pioneer head unit in my 4Runner. That works out great. I would think it will work on RAV4 as well. The 2019 RAV4 maybe difficult since it looks like a pop up screen from the dash.

Thanks for the recommendation. Nice unit you have. Will probably get a different Kenwood because I want/need the GPS navigator.

The DVD player, does that mean you can play DVD videos? While the vehicle is in motion?

And, were you able to retain ALL of the steering wheel controls?

DIY or did you pay someone to install? If DIY, fairly easy/simple?

Thanks.

All-Fun...
I also have been considering an aftermarket stereo..
1. Did you loose anything? Bird'seye camera, gas mileage graph,
2. I have the "JBL". Will that make installation harder?
Thank You

Just tried it out, I don't normally play dvd's.

But yes sir !

I was able to play the dvd while driving. Kinda Crazy, when you think about it.

I paid extra for the iDatalink - Maestro stereo interface. SO I was able to retain all my steering wheel controls.

I even gained some extra gauges within the headunit.

I can create a video if you want to see what I mean.

But in words, Withing my new headunit. I have a touchscreen icon that says "Gauges" When I click this I can see different gauges/meters of my vehicle including:

RPM
Timing Advance...
Throttle Plate PO...
Transmission Fluid Temp.
Vehicle Speed
Zero to 60mph
RPM
Braking Distance
Distance to Empty
Engine Coolant Temp.
Engine Load
Exhaust Gas Temp.
Fuel Level
Intake Air Temp
Instantaneous Fuel...
Mass Air Flow
Quarter MIle time
Throttle Plate Po...
Timing Advance
Transmission Fluid

and maybe a couple more.

Very cool.

I also have the XLE Version, and I also gained the adaptive/dynamic rearview camera. Meaning, I can see the guidelines move as i Turn my wheel, while I am backing up.

I am 100% positive I did not have this before I installed this headunit with the Maestro.

I have the XLE So I never had the birdseye camera. The middle display I did not mess with (The display right in front of the steering wheel. That is where I see the gas mileage. If you could see it in the original/stock/factory headunit, I never noticed it. See my other post same thread. I was able to retain the gas mileage plus A LOT MORE because I bought the iDatalink - Maestro steroe interface. )

I can make a video if anyone cares.

The Stereo brand does not matter bro. They all are going to have the same connection inputs. It just depends on how much you spend.

And what I mean is. the JBL that cost $500 will probably have the same stuff the $500 kenwood is going to have. (Not considering specials/sales/discounts.) It will be the EXACT SAME install process.

A most useful and helpful post. Thank you. I have the Adventure model, which is based upon/closest to the XLE model.
I'll leave creating a video up to you. I'm convinced to get a Kenwood. If you do make a video, it may be of help to others.

Don't want to Rain On Your Parade. But you might want to do a little more research before you buy that Kenwood. A few years ago, I purchased one of their top tier models DX999???? for about $2K and installed it in a Jeep Wrangler. Loved it (at first). Last summer it quit working (about 3 years of service). After researching, turns out that if the fan stops working in the back of the unit -your dead soon afterwards. I'll be looking at air-cooled models from now on. Just FYI.

Damn, I never knew that. But you spent $2k on a headunit???

Was it a built in navigation one ???

I spent $550 on mine man, sheesh that is hella expensive.

It came with apple car play and Android Auto.
