Post a pic of the area. Yet another reason I want nothing to do with these systems.

I would do what one of the other posts said and call Toyota Corp and file a complaint. Would first take good close up pictures of the entire rear bumper area of your car, including the sides of the bumper. Sounds like this might be a poor design of the sensor itself. Those should not respond unless there is an impact great enough to do damage to the vehicle. Imagine if the sensors that deploy the car's air bags were that sensitive!
If you get no where with Toyota Corp I would suggest you file a complaint with your State Attorney General. You should also file a complaint with the Federal Government, cant think off hand what department that would be, however they do keep track of problems report, often that is how recalls start.
Let us know how this turns out.

I've had an incident where the BSM malfunctioned and turned off. I was parking and backed up at an angle into a pillar. The corner of the rear bumper had a very small dent. The BSM worked. I took it to a repair shop and he visually said it would take $100 to fix, since it only looked cosmetic.

Several weeks later I got the BSM malfunctioned message and it stopped working. I took it into Toyota and they said the BSM was knocked off alignment and that it would be better to replace it instead of realigning it.

The BSM seems to be sensitive. It's good to know that because if someone ever bumps me from behind, even though there is no visible damage, instead of not getting insurance info, I would get insurance info because the damage can occur weeks later.
