Tree debris in cowl area

I move to an area that has a lot of trees, and I noticed that the vent openings in the cowl area between the windshield and the hood collects a lot of tree debris, especially in the spring. Does anyone know if this will wash out when I wash the car, or does it just stay in there and turn into compost? Thanks.

Have had this problem with my '11 RAV4 and have used a vacuum cleaner to clear the debris. Otherwise they generally accumulate and disintegrate and filter through into the area under the cowl where they can be drawn into the cabin air system and block the cabin filter.

Thanks, I will give the vacuum a try, and I will check the cabin air filter.

Try not to let this crap build up. Years ago I had a car that would soak the passenger floor whenever the AC was on because the drain tube for the AC was clogged with tree debris. Last year my father's Sienna had crap build up in the blower motor fan under the dash and made all kinds of noise. Had to remove it and clean it out. Royal PITA!

I read somewhere else (may be on this site I don’t remember), that someone recommended removing the wipers and taking the cowl cover off to clean out what collected inside. That sounds like a lot of work too. Unfortunately there’s nowhere that I can park that isn’t getting covered with tree parts this time of year.

It's not that much work to remove the cowl. You can do it in few minutes.
