Question Pre-Collision Warning System Malfunction and Lane Departure Assist Malfunction

Hello! I have a 2017 Rav4 XLE. For the last month, I have been having intermittent issues where the Pre-Collision Warning System Malfunctions and the Lane Departure Assist Malfunctions with 99.9% of the time with the L turn signal on. Has anyone had this issue? I will state that I was hit about 8 months ago on my L front end, but the car did fine for over 7 months with no issues after repair and no sensors were repaired at that time. The car has been to two dealerships (one was not near home and I had to work then next day so hence the 2nd dealer). First dealer said my pre collision warning system sensor needed to be replaced but gave no rationale and did not have part in stock and the 2nd dealer said they couldn't see that was the issue and due to it being in an accident needed to go back to the Collision Center. It has now been to the collision center x 3 for same issue. Suggestions? Thoughts? Anyone else having this issue without the car being in an accident?

Thanks for your help and suggestions

I believe Lane Departure Assist is cancelled when the signals are used. Otherwise it would false alarm when you change lanes to pass, exit or enter. Pre-Collision Warning may be too since the system assumes the driver is in control when he puts the signals on.

I'm wondering if the OP got an answer from the dealer.
On about an hour's trip on the interstate yesterday with my '18 Accord I tried changing lanes with and w/o signaling many times - where there was no traffic around to wonder what I was doing. With no signal about half the times I crossed the dotted line I got the Lane Change Warning. When I signaled I never got the warning. That makes sense to me because the system knows the driver is changing lanes intentionally. I'd think all manufacturers' systems would work the same.

I understand that the Lane Departure Assist (LDA) occurs when my signal is not on and it is giving me a lane departure warning, but what im getting is that the system is malfunctioning for both lane departure and precollision warning system.

Update- it is still happening even after the Main Wire Harness was replaced. It is intermittent and it is driving me batty! It is now back at the Toyota Dealership after 3x at the Collision Center and they still have no clue. The codes it does pull do not necessarily make sense. I'm just over it. Hoping they figure it out as the speedometer jumps as well- it is not w/o my signal that it happens - pretty much occurs as I'm coming to a stop with my left turn signal on- so usually the LDA doesn't work under 32mph. To top it off now my daytime running lights are not working consistently. So it is now at it's 6th stop for the same problem- let's hope between Toyota and State Farm they can figure it out.

Dealers are gonna make a fortune once the cars are no longer under warranty LOL. Good luck.

Do you have a factory windshield? I've seen aftermarket windshields not get sealed properly. Water will leak into the car, corrode electrical circuits and cause weird problems. Anytime I have to diagnose wierd problems like this, I always check for aftermarket glass and water intrusion first.

The Toyota tech should also be opening a TAS case for this type of issue.

Yes have a Factory windshield. So for the precollision and lane depart assist malfunctions allegedly it was the fact that the grounding wires were not secured properly after the car was put back together. Now, the daytime running lights are not working properly so the tech is trying to figure that out- sooo the merry go round continues.
