Oil filters - which style?

Hey guys,

I’ve been running Denso filters since I got my 2014 but picked up some Mobil1 filters on sale today. They seem very well made and I’m happy to try them however they are not made the same way at all (and I 100% got the right ones for our motor)

See attached photos, Denso is 1st and the Mobil1 is second. They are not made the same way.

Anybody care to chime in on this? What difference can it make? Thanks!

Toyota OEM filters work fine and are cheap! I see no reason to use anything else!

Yes the OEM filters are fine, but like I said I got a very good deal on the Mobil1 filters. I plan on using them but wondering about their different design!

Mobil makes good products. I wouldn't worry about them.

The Toyota oem filter and the denso lack the end caps which the Mobile 1 has which I assume raised the question

The Mobile 1 filter is designed identical to the Purolator filter spec'd for the Toyota. Purolator works fine as will the Mobile 1.
.
No, nothing wrong with Toyota oem...nothing wrong with after market either.

The Mobil filter is built more substantially than the Denso. There's nothing wrong with that, nice find on sale.

IT'S MOBIL 1 NOT MOBILE 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you go to install the Mobil filter, check that the red gaskets are fully seated in the metal. I just installed one in my RAV last weekend but noted that the gasket wasnít all the way seated. Easy to do, but necessary as it wonít seat properly otherwise and could have blowby inside.

Current Fleet (of 2)
2012 RAV4 2.5 2WD Base
2017 Golf TSi Auto

Easy now, it's actually our 3rd Toyota!
