2007-2011 Seat Heater Recall

Does anybody know any details about the seat heater recall notice I just got via e-mail from NHTSA?

Link doesn't work. But I plugged my 2009's vin into their search and didn't come up with anything. https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/vinLookup

Hmmm....looks like a regional recall for dealer/port installed seat heaters through Southeast Toyota Distributors. So this would only affect owners in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina who have seat heaters but DON'T drive a Limited.

Link works fine for me.

Help RAV4World members help you by providing your car's operating location in your profile page. Climate can cause a RAV4 in Dallas Wisconsin to experience a different set of issues when compared to the same model in Dallas Texas.

The remedy is : "SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the heaters with copper strand heating elements and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory, free of charge"

That is considered a remedy?

This reminds me of a recall on certain GM 3.8 V6 engines. The spark plug wires on the front back are routed through a plastic channel that snaps onto the front valve cover. When the front valve cover gasket starts leaking oil due to age, the oil can get on the plastic channel, and then onto the hot exhaust manifold below it which could catch fire. The plastic channel increases the chance of a fire, so the fix is to remove the plastic channel. No mention of repairing the oil leak, just yank a part and toss it.

Hers : 2010 RAV4 Base 2.5 AWD Pacific Blue Metallic

If I have helped, please hit the thanks button.

I guest it costs more to replace with carbon fiber elements at the dealer.
But other installers will charges less to just place the heater elements; all the wiring is already in place afterall.

Link works fine for me.
Only 3200 vehicles are affected across ALL models. Many more vehicles are out there with the factory seat heaters - which appear to be OK.
