Door Mirrors Rattle

New FWD,XLE: From day one, rattling sound when shutting either door. The drivers side door mirror rattles randomly depending on road conditions. Small ripples or bumps on the road do it. So does crossing most railroad tracks. 3 visits to the service department have not resolved the

rattling noise. The last visit, the drivers side mirror was changed for a minor improvement..While at the dealership, I checked out a showroom RAV4. Shutting both doors, resulted in the same mirror rattling sound as I have.. The dealer has reported logging this problem with Toyota and

advises there may be some sort of a fix if there are enough complaints..If your door mirrors rattle, PLEASE log the issue with your dealer.

Toyota knows about it, expect it to take a while for a TSB to be issued, pretty much SOP for new model issues.

I also have the same issue. Attempted to isolate it. Appears to either be a spring mechanism or the top housing making contact with the arm housing. If you put the mirror at the half way folded position, the noise goes away. i might try putting a loose piece of soft plastic or phone between the two parts for now.

Let me ask you guys one little question: OK, so your mirror "rattles" when you close your door. I'm presuming that you notice this while you're inside the car, right? Well, here's my question:

If you get out of your car, stand right next to your mirror, maybe even put your ear right next to it, and then close the door, do you hear it rattle then?

what I've done to isolate it:

Close door window up (in drivers seat or stand outside): Issue persists
Close door window down (in drivers seat or stand outside): Issue persists
Fold mirror forward:Issue persists
Fold Mirror Backward: Issue persists

Apply pressure to mirror when closing door: Issue resolved.
Fold mirror to halfway point in either direction: Issue resolved.

Passenger side rattle is extremely minimal and not bothersome. 3/10 compared to driver side 10/10

Issue is not noticeable when driving vehicle.

Sounds like you've done some comprehensive testing. I've heard some noise at times when closing my driver door -- while in the vehicle -- but I've never heard a thing while standing outside the car, right next to that mirror. Thus, my question. Though, since I posted that previous message, I think I've figured out that it's a water bottle that I often carry in that door. It fits in there snugly, but I hear a "metallic" sound when I close the door with that bottle in there. No bottle, no noise.
