Ventilated seats, Softex, cloth

I've always had cloth seats in my cars, but I'm now considering a Limited Hybrid which has Softex. There's also an option for ventilated Softex.

I'm looking for some pros and cons of each.

For example, will a spilled Coke be a much bigger problem with the ventilated seats due to all the vent holes? Would regular Softex handle that spill better than cloth?

I can't answer your question, but there have been several mentions by ventilated seat owners stating the ventilated seat heaters aren't as warm as the standard SofTex seat heaters if seat heating is important to you.

I pondered the same question quite a bit before buying non-ventilated seats. I was concerned about spills and rips with the ventilated seats. Although I'm a car-neatnick the rest of my family is not. Also, I have teenagers and a very energetic dog.

Regular Softex is probably easier to clean than the other choices. It's very water resistant and seems tough. (I still bought a seat cover for when the dog travels.)

We've had SofTex in five Toyotas over the last 4+ yrs, it has been easy to keep clean even with coffee, tea and soda pop spills, had cinnamon interior in the '16 HV Ltd which is light colored, no difference.

I got to drive a Limited non-hybrid for 3 hours last night Softex non-ventilated seats. The seat heaters seemed very warm, though it's hard to tell in 55 weather. I didn't think to use my infrared thermometer to measure in case anyone here might fix that useful.

More important to me is that after 3 hours, my backside was pretty tired. My Camry's cloth seats are more comfortable.

I haven't had luck finding a RAV4 with ventilated seats to see if they are softer than Softex.

Has anyone compared the seat comfort among the 3 choices?

I doubt this has much to do with the upholstery. The Camry has better seats, period.

I drove a Limited with vented Softex last week and I found it to be very comfortable, especially coming from the concrete leather on my 2012 Limited. I also drove an XLE with cloth today and found the vented Softex to be significantly more comfortable. Granted, these were short test drives. I don't think things can get worse than the crap seats I have in my 2012!

Interesting that many of us have questions on the seats. I'm deciding between a XLE vs. the Limited Hybrid all based on seats. Spending another 6-7K for this seems excessive. For anyone with the XLE cloth any concerns if having a dog, kids for cleaning?

If one has cloth upholstered seats and is concerned about dirt or wear there are seat covers widely available. I have upgraded cloth upholstery in my Base '11 (with Upgrade Value Package), got seat covers right away and the seats themselves look like new - verified by one of the people who services my vehicle. Had leather in the past in another vehicle and it did not breathe. Was in a Softex RAV4 for a couple of hours and didn't care for how it felt but can understand why others like it.

I can't rule this out!

I've done 2+ hour drives now in a RAV4 with cloth seats, Softex, and ventilated Softex. Here's how I rate the seats for a multi-hour drive on a "10" scale. (Caveat: I'm thin so I don't have a lot of "padding" myself.)

10 Mythical "perfect" seats

9 My 2007 Camry Hybrid with cloth seats
8 My 2013 Camry Hybrid with cloth seats
7 2019 RAV4 with cloth seats
6 2019 RAV4 with ventilated Softex
5 2019 RAV4 with Softex

I have been leaning towards a loaded Limited Hybrid, but the comfort of the cloth seats gives me pause. I wonder if the Softex starts to soften up in time?
