No I can't. I'll try to find out more info Thursday. I'll just take it back in another 2000 miles if I have to. Maybe even start a Lemon Law Claim?

Well at least I know what it is. I've got an appointment with the dealer on Friday, hopefully they've gotten the memo on the transfer cases.

Just updating this thread (I started a new thread).

Toyota Service canceled my appointment for the transfer case replacement. Service manager reported that they were simply replacing the part with a similar part. And "they" have been told by Toyota stop replacing the case until a solution is found.

At this point. I'm trying to find my own options too.

Good news. I wonder if this is a tactic to avoid lemon law criteria.

Iíll run mine in sport mode until Iíve ground the gears into hockey pucks and the axles are gone. Then Iíll tow it to the dealer and have the wrecker drop it in the middle of the showroom floor.

ďCall me when itís doneĒ

More seriously, I just lodged a complaint with Toyota NA yesterday. Their reputation will hinge on how quickly they resolve this. If itís months, Iím out.

I've never considered using a Lemon Law before this. So I really don't know much. After some quick research today, I would think that this problem "should" fit a Lemon Law claim?

I have also lodged a complaint with Toyota Customer Service. And currently waiting a return call from a Customer Relations Rep. I too will not accept ambiguities or a long drawn out process to resolving this issue. Or I will seek additional actions.

It depends on the state. In CA several attempts (4) to fix it need to be made before the criteria is met.

Working at a Toyota dealership in parts here is what little I know as I have not been following this thread to much since my fiancť purchased an Outback Limited 3.6 vs the RAV4 Hybrid Limited.
I talked briefly to the mechanic who has dealt with this problem and had already replaced 2 or 3 before Toyota sent the word to stop. Right now we have 4 new assemblies sitting on the shelf we will not be using as it’s just the same part that fails. He said there is supposed to be a new part coming sometime in June and it will not be this whole case assy but something more easily replaced although I guess it’s still no simple task. I will try to pick his brain some more as that was just some casual conversation.
I’m not a Toyota fan boy per say (I encouraged the Outback purchase for various reasons) but I am totally confident Toyota will make this right. They absolutely have to as sooooo much rides on this vehicle for them.
If I find any new info I will try to post an update for everyone.

Thank You Sir.

I would suspect that it would be in Toyotas' best interest to correct this issue. Still doesn't take the sting out of having to wait months for a resolution. And you would think that Toyota Customer Relations would be a little more forthcoming with information to their customers? I hope they expedite their work.

It would be nice if they would, though I suspect the reason specific info is sparse is for legal reasons, i.e. not to fuel potential lawsuits. Thatís just speculation on my part, however

So far "you" have been the most comforting source of information. Please continue to share what you can (when you can).

Just got off the phone with the Service Manager at my local Toyota Dealer. - Pretty much same as before. No information other than "we will call you". Pete may have a point about legal issues being involved. IDK? I've always had the impression that Toyota took great pride in customer relations. But it is a little unsettling when you have no information at all. I personally would not like to see things progress to the point of lawyers getting involved. I just want what I paid for.

The service manager said that he would respond to me personally at the firs hint of any new news. Patiently waiting.
